The stereo today seemed to be stuck on songs about sex (with a side of Murder Ballads), but eventually they managed to coax and bully it into doing what they wanted.
"Today, we are going to look ahead to prom tonight, and play songs about festive dances," Hannibal said. "While prom itself may be a fairly recent thing, humans have been coming together to celebrate with dancing for quite some time."
//Dancing and popularity contests,// Jono mused, tilting his head. He didn't have much to contribute to this one, since most of the music he knew about dancing or parties was entirely not class appropriate in a week like this. //Or maybe Prom court is just more recent.//
"Originally, a pavane was a medieval dance designed for couples in procession - that is, its purpose is as much to move from one place to another as it is to dance. As such, it may be one very early predecessor to today's prom dancers." It was a stretch, but you never knew. He played a video for them. There are also more energetic group dances such as this one - the music is a Saltarello.
"Later on, as far as couples dancing in public, we move on to dances like the waltz." And the tango, but he wasn't going to go with that one this week. You were all welcome.
"Coming into the twentieth century, we have other dances. With the rise of rock music, dance often became less rigidly choreographed and more...improvisational." He looked pained as he put on the next video, and stopped it as soon as he could.

"Which brings us to the modern concept of prom, which involves quite a bit of couple and group and single dancing, along with fancy outfits. A somewhat romanticized version of one - with almost as much glitter as ours is likely to have - is here. A slightly more modern and arguably more realistic version is this."
