Home Ec- Monday- 2nd period

"Hello, class," Brooke greeted them when everybody was here. "Since this is Home Ec, we have to talk a little about cooking. Now, there are classes here that actually deal with that so I'm not going to get too into it, but in case you're not taking them, we have to at least touch on the basics.

"So, today you're going to make these three things: a mug cake, mac and cheese, and the perennial favorite of college students who don't have to worry about what sodium does for their blood pressure yet, instant ramen. They're all fast, so you should be able to finish all three, and it doesn't matter what order you go in. And just remember, if you end up being bad at this, it's okay. Postmates exists."

Such as it is.

You literally boil water, put in seasoning, and drop in the noodles.

Good old Kraft. It's like instant ramen, except instead of putting seasoning in you wait till it's done and then add powder that's supposed to somehow be cheese.

This one needs an actual recipe and a microwave. But still, it takes like seven minutes.

She'd never gotten quite desperate enough for instant ramen, and it was a little source of pride.

Uuuuugh new commute and terrible early wakeup time tomorrow please kill me.

Prince Sidon

Sidon didn't really know what Postmates was, but, considering he ate the majority of his food fresh and raw, he didn't worry about it too much. He was feeling strangely excited to learn to cook a few things, though, if anything to impress Hylians and humans who might not expect him to be so...cultured.

If this one involved water, then Sidon should be a natural at it! Though the idea of boiling water so hot you couldn't even stand it made him a little sad, but he could understand it for its purposes here.

And since it was so simple, he thought he did a pretty good job of it, too. He particularly liked when the noodles broke apart from their block and floated around beautifully, like seaweed.

This one started with water, too! It appeared that Sidon might lean a bit toward pastas and noodles should he ever find himself needed to cook for. He certainly enjoyed the greater challenge of adding that curious yellow powder, as well as butter and milk and timing it right. Which he didn't, not quite, so it turned out a little...lumpy in the sauce, but not bad for a first time, right?

My, but these measuring spoons were so small! Since his mac and cheese hadn't turned out looking much like the picture on the box except in the most forgiving of imaginations, he was taking extra care to get this one right. It made for quite the sight, too, this hulking thing bent over these small cups and delicately putting them together.

After a few missteps with getting the time on the microwave, though, he discovered his hard work had paid off with a lovely little mug cake, and he laughed triumphantly.

"It's almost like a hot cocoa!" he proclaimed with delight. "Only solid!"

Okay, normally Eric liked his cooking to be a little more... involved. But! He could appreciate that not everyone felt that way, and that "the basics", as Brooke put it, were important for high school students who were expected to be largely self-sufficient when it came to feeding themselves. So instant ramen it was.

This... this hurt his soul just a little bit more, because oh my god, homemade mac and cheese was amazing, while this stuff was... not so much. But an assignment was an assignment.

Now this... this was a little more up his alley. At least there was an actual recipe this time?

It was perhaps better not to ask how he also managed to make a couple of pies as well.

Paris' cooking class had just made ramen this morning! She was so prepared. This was exciting.

...just don't make her put a fried egg on it or anything. She couldn't figure that part out.

Paris was so good at this, she was almost smug about it.

Behold her mad Ramen-boiling skills. She's super ready for Harvard now.

"My cheese won't mix," Paris complained. "It's just sitting there, looking orange and Trump-like."

Six minutes into the exercise, Paris's hand shot up. "We don't have to clean up the microwave after, right?"

Um. Hypothetically?

"...You absolutely do," said Brooke, who hadn't considered that until right this second.
