"I hope you all got to punch a shark this weekend because I sure as hell did," Magnus said cheerfully as his class arrived. "If not, there's nothing wrong with that either."

But he was a little sad because it was fun.

"Today we're gonna go with the most important part of battle-wagon racing... picking an animal mask to wear because it's technically illegal. I have a bear mask because I feel a sort of kindred spirit there. With the raawr and the claws and stuff. So, figure out what you think fits you best. And no mongoose. I promised Taako he had dibs."

Peridot really only knew of one kind of Earth animal, besides sharks. Which was why, after a few moments of looking not entirely convinced that it was one that really suited her, she hedged, "... Dog?"

Jason's first instinct was to go with a T-Rex. But that was a little too on the nose, he felt. So, hmm.

"A bull." Sure, he'd be the only one here who would understand why it was really funny, but he could Snapchat his friends back home and they'd hopefully get a laugh too.

Whatever happened to Gundren Rockseeker's dog from the---oh, the gauntlet. Totally killed by the gauntlet. Magnus would be super sad if he remembered it.

Peridot was trusting you here, Jason. She was trusting you as she leaned in and looked at the phone, one eyebrow raised.

"They're about as hairy as dogs," she noted.

That was important for some reason.

He shrugged. "One time I kidnapped a rival school's mascot and put it in my old school's locker room." For reasons. "His name was Beefcake."

"Mostly, yeah," Jason agreed. There were hairless cats, of course, but Jason thought they looked kinda weird, personally.

She was really, really bad at Earth, Jason.

"Well, um," Jason hedged as he tried to think of a way to explain it. "Cats mostly just come in the one size? The ones that we keep as pets, anyway. There's definitely big cats out there, but they're wild animals. Not the kind you'd wanna keep in a dorm room or a house. Dogs, uh. There's a lot more variation. They make different noises, too! It's pretty easy to tell which is a cat and which is a dog after it's made a noise at you." He paused, trying to think of more differences. "Um. A dog'll knock things over sometimes because it's excited and just not paying attention or whatever. I think cats do it on purpose, to see what would happen."
