Thank god next week was the last week of classes. Sparkle had only had to scrounge up like a half-dozen show and tell prompts, and he was already blanking. They'd done food, they'd done music, they'd even gone to a zoo. Sparkle supposed he could get the students to talk about their favourite movies or something, but that seemed like a weird cop-out kind of thing, and it wasn't like they had time to sit down and watch even one full movie in the class time they had.

"YouTube videos," he blurted as he stepped into the classroom, wide-eyed. "This week we're going to show off some video on the internet that we really enjoyed, or one that really helped us with something, or, shit, even the first meme that jumps to mind. We're going to do that."

Because they were usually shorter than movies, yes. And because there were all of three students in his class, he didn't have to worry about, like, dragging in a big screen or anything. He could just pull out the datapad that Atton had given him and have the class gather around.

"So, mine is... actually, like, a serious one this week," he shared. "It's this poem, actually, by a Canadian guy called Shake Koyczan, called To This Day. It can be hard to listen to; this one in particular is kind of a sometimes food, you know? He wrote it about bullying and the long-term impact it has on people, and it does touch on suicide, so yes, you're welcome to tap out on this one before I hit play."

The possible suicide trigger, he could warn for. The potential for messy tears, he'd really just brought a box of Kleenex for. He looked at his students, waited for anyone to leave if they needed to, and then started the video.

When I was a kid, I used to think that pork chops and karate chops were the same thing...

Yeah, shut up, even Sparkle was kind of tearing up a little bit by the end of that one. Maybe the Kleenex was just as much for him.

"So. Uh. Anyone have anything they'd like to share?"

They could use a mood-lifter.

Paying attention.

But no, really, Sparkle brought tissue if you need it. He won't judge, he's got something in his eye, himself.

If you need to leave the room at any point during the video, he won't stop you, either. It's a hard one.

... Sparkle is hoping that at least one of you has some stupid cat video to show off or something.

SHUT UP IT WAS JUST SOMETHING IN HIS EYE.

... I made myself cry. Koyczan always makes me cry. You'd think I would have learned this by now. Even the one he recited at the live show about his grandmother's cat made me cry, and he opened that one with a diatribe about how the cat would just keep pointing his little pencil-sharpener butthole in his face.

I probably should have gone with Hart's Watermelon instead.

Pinkie Pie

You'd think Pinkie would be the perfect student to bring up a stupid cat video. And she almost did. She almost went for ninja cats.

Instead, she pulled up something else.

"So it's a little bit cute and a little bit scary and all kinds of weird and I had to watch it like four times before I decided I knew what was going on but I love it and, um. It's called 'Out of the Forest'. Just watch!"

Ino leaned in the doorway, careful not to disturb the class until it was over. Silly observed the proceedings from her shoulder with the serious expression of someone completely checked out from the matter at hand which, given that Silly was a tiny bird only made sense.

She knocked on the door frame to get Sparkle’s attention once he was free.

"Pretty heavy material for a show and tell class," she observed. "Yo."

Sparkle... only kind of was making a reach for the tissues when Ino knocked, so help him. He did a quick abort mission on the way to the Kleenex box and picked up a pencil to fidget with instead.

"I mean, heavy, but... honest? It's this new thing I'm trying."

Honesty. Not making everyone cry. But apparently also that.

"Hey."

"Well," Sparkle said, once that video was done, "that was one hell of a crazy shot of rabbit to the brain, wasn't it?"

He was blinking while he tried to process it, and then all at once he broke into a grin.

"I like it."

Ringo Noyamano

Pinkie beamed. "All kinds of weird!" she repeated gleefully.

In retrospect, it was maybe not surprising that Pinkie had a thing for the surreal.

"Big fan of weird, aren't you?" Sparkle wasn't judging. He was a big fan of camp. He didn't have a leg to stand on.

"It's only a small step away from silly," Pinkie pointed out. "Nothing breaks up a gloomy day like something that makes you blink and then smile and go 'what the heck was that?!'"

"And anyway, everything turned out pretty okay for the bunny," Sparkle laughed, shaking his head.

... He'd been concerned for the little guy for a moment.

"I might have to start working up a collection of weird, myself. Not that the island doesn't provide plenty of that already."

"The island's weird can be super fun," Pinkie agreed. She'd liked the giant bunnies especially. She may have sent several dozen photos home to Canterlot and Fluttershy during that whole thing. "But sometimes it's more fun to watch the weird from a distance."

Less traumatizing, certainly.

"I definitely prefer YouTube weird," Sparkle decided, nodding his agreement. "I've never had to run away from YouTube weird, really."

That part was important.

"Of course not," Pinkie said. "The internet is in the very air around us. Running away wouldn't do any good."

"... And now I don't know if that's profound or terrifying."

Both, probably. Both.

Pinkie just beamed again.

“Being depressing?” Ino asked lightly, with a pointed glance at the pencil. “You can’t blow your nose with that, just so you know. Did you want to try again?”

What? Was she supposed to pretend she didn’t know what he’d been going for first?

Sparkle was so wrinkling his nose at Ino, now, as he fidgeted with his pencil.

"Nah, I'm good with just this," he decided. "Did you swing by just to nitpick my curriculum?"

His 'I just pulled this out of my ass this morning' curriculum!

Mara Jade

"Did you want me to do more?” she asked, smiling. “I was bored. Thought I’d wander.”

Through the school, where she had no reason to be.

"Well, I mean," Sparkle raised an eyebrow at her, but smirked a little bit anyway, "I guess swinging by to nitpick's okay too. Welcome to my class that is usually way less depressing. We went to the zoo a few weeks back. You should've stopped by for that one."
