Urban Survival - The Uglier Side of City Living, Wednesday, Period 2

"Practical exercise day," Sparkle announced, walking around the room and handing out empty stainless steel water bottles to each student. "Without stepping into the dorms or just using the fountains here at school, I want you guys to get these things filled with clean, drinkable water. You can do it any way you see fit, except by spending money to get it done. If you go to a restaurant that expects you to buy a meal with your free liquid refreshment, that doesn't count, either. Now, I could have bribed some squirrel buddies of mine to follow you all around and report back to me if you cheat, but you know what? You're mature something-teens, and you all get that what you get out of this class today is whatever you put into it. So."

He shrugged.

"Get 'em full. Come back to me at the end of class to tell me if you ran into any problems, and where you ultimately managed to get yours filled up. I'm curious to see what options there are around the island, too."

Thirsty!

You are being given water bottles.

You are to fill the water bottles.

Today's lecture is pretty straightforward.

And get drinking water!

Just... not from the school or dorms. And don't spend any money to do it.

Remember, it has to be clean and drinkable, so unless you have some way of purifying the water in the duck pond, that's probably not an option. That goes double for heading down to the beach. Unless you actually can drink seawater, in which case, go nuts?

OOCly, try not to mod any player-owned businesses you don't have permission to mod. There are plenty of NPC businesses still on the island that are up for grabs. If you actually have your character step into an open business and play out a thread in town, hey, that's cool too. Whatever it takes to fill that bottle, right?

Preferably with clean water!

How did it go? Where did you get your water from? Did you come across any obstacles along the way?

He totally just filled his up in one of the school's water fountains. This exercise isn't for him.

Jalian took her bottle, shrugged, and headed out the Preserve. There was a river there she'd seen on runs and had even drunk from a time or two already.

She ignored the furred fish, filled her bottle, and headed back.

"I used the river in the woods," Jalian said. She shrugged. "The fish weren't any trouble. You just have to find a place deep enough not to have mud, and moving enough not to be stagnant."

I will post the flower shop today, and anybody who wants to hit up Peter for some water is welcome to!

Oh, that was easy enough! Merrill wandered off to the woods and summoned a small spring, dispelling it as soon as she'd filled her bottle.

Finding her way back to class was what took most of the rest of the period.

Tip went to Town Hall. After a quick Q&A with a staffer there about the contents of the town's tap water (and a lesson in just how many things that tap water had spontaneously turned into over the years), she went into the bathroom and filled her water bottle up in the sink.

Whelp. At least today it looked pretty much like water. . . .

"The town's tap water is clean," Tip said. "When, you know, it's not egg nog." She held up her bottle. "There's a public bathroom at Town Hall that doesn't look too skeezy, so. . . ."

She shrugged.

She was. She was even extra quick about the assignment so she could make sure she stayed available to her fellow students.

And Jenkins will be at the Magic Box . . . eventually! Though he might make vague comments about potential magic effects and peer at you closely if you take a drink in the store itself.

Ada Miller

Ada was half-tempted to go down to the beach and just get water from the ocean since she could drink it just fine.

But that wasn't anyone's business, so she wandered into town, found a ~~npc~~ house with an exterior hose and no one home, filled up her bottle, and came back.

She could have just waltzed into the store, sure, but she was pretty sure the point was to get creative.

"Found a house with no one home an' had an exterior water-spout for a hose," Ada said with a shrug. "Worked just fine."

Trespassing is a thing Ada. Seriously.

Shiemi wasn't sure if it counted as the dorms or not, since it was on school grounds but not otherwise secured, but she headed to the Garden and got her water. While she was there, she also gave the place a once over and fixed some of the herbs that had been disturbed by a grazing teal deer.

At least she hoped it was a teal deer. Those herbs didn't go well with human digestive systems.

Shieme had ended up spending more time in the garden than she was probably supposed to. But she came back with her water!

"And some fresh mint. I had to trim it back a bit." She held out a fair amount of leaves. "If anyone wants any? They're very tasty!"
