Creative Cooking With a Focus on Pudding - Thursday Period 3

The ceiling was covered in pancakes.

Wonka was at the back of the home ec room, cast iron skillet in hand, clad in a tiny-fonted "Give the cook a respectable arm's length of personal space, thank you," apron. A lovely golden pancake sizzled within the skillet, browned to perfection. One mittoned hand gave the skillet a gentle shake. Then, a flick of the wrist, and Wonka jutted the pancake into the air. It hit the ceiling with a satisfying "smack!"

"Today, dear children, we cook. Breakfasts are versatile, especially those dishes which can function as pastries. Today, you'll be making one of three delightful breakfast foods, and through the addition of sweet ingredients, turning them into desserts. We've spent the past two weeks developing your palettes, so it's time to bring out the canvases.

If you don't feel up to anything fancy yet, you may want to start adding chocolate chips or blueberries to a modest stack of pancakes. Wafflemakers? Fruited toppings are traditional, but far from mandatory. The brave few who choose to attempt crepes should be equally brave with their fillings. If you can wrap it, it can go in there!"

Wonka checked his watch. His eyes bulged for a moment, and he grabbed his skillet, scrambling atop Dante's desk.

"Do watch where you put your notebook, one's liable to slip on it."

He stretched out one gangly arm, and a pancake fell from the ceiling, landing squarely into the skillet. A happy little face of chocolate candies grinned back at the room.

He looked to the rest of the class.

"Don't just sit there, mouths agape. You've your directions! Get hopping!"
