Anthropology 101, 6th Period

"Well, we've slightly decreased in class size," Daniel grins as his two remaining students. "Considering this, I'd like to move the class to my office instead.

We're going to be looking at cultural anthropology for the remainder of the semester and with there being only two of you, this is going to be discussion based mostly.

Today. What is cultural anthropology? What do you think it involves? What are some of the subdivisions of it? We're just going to discuss it."

[ooc: Kiki LAUGHS in the face of OCD threads!]

Kiki looks for a sign in sheet, automatically, and then realizes that having one is kind of pointless. If she's not there, it'd be pretty darn noticable. Twice as much now as before!

"Cultural anthropology is probably what most people think of when they hear the word 'anthropology.' Studying the religion, economics, class structure, political climate and other aspects of a civilization," Kiki answers. "And I guess those would be some of its subdivisions, come to think of it."

"Well, as a civilaztion gets more complex, there'd be multiple layers to study," Kiki pondered out loud. "I mean, thousands of years ago, it could be expected that a civilzation worshipped a single pantheon. But as a civilization gets more complex it would develop internal subcultures, each one individual. Like how religion my vary based on caste. Is that what you mean?"

"Even in ancient civilization there would be subcultures, the wives, the fisherman, the religious leaders, the warriors. You could study a specific subgroup and what seperates it from the culture surrounding it."

"Oh, good point!" Kiki agreed. "I didn't even think of differences based on gender. I guess I lumped that all under study of the caste system."

"What do you think are some of the subcultures here at Fandom? Besides teachers and students and townies?" Blair may or may not be taking notes for a future paper.

"The magic-users, definitely. Or, to be broader, those without powers and those with. Those who have powers have access to things that those without can't ever fully understand no matter how much they learn about them. The same goes for technology - There are some who have such a vast knowledge of machines and space and technology that I could never hope to comprehend in years. Or there's those of that club - the Weird Home Town Support group." Kiki grinned. "These pieces of common ground that people share. I think, however, that because of all the variety of people here in Fandom, we don't let these subcultures define our interactions."

"It does seem to help that we have a large amount of diversity for such a small amount of people. Keeps people from developing cliques." Blair bounced.
