So You Just Met Your Relative From The Future, Friday

"Okay," Ben began. "My cousins were twins--a boy and a girl about sixteen years older than me, and I left them back in my home galaxy...and met my cousin Jaina here, only now she was just about my age."

"Sometimes, you will meet relatives from other timelines. We have already covered this," Obi-Wan said. He spread his arms. "What we have not, is the peculiar awkwardness of public functions where two or more of the same relative may be present."

Ben nodded. "My graduation party had two different versions of my dad in attendance."

Ben's life was very, very weird.

"How do you juggle such a situation?" Obi-Wan said. "Where do you seat these people. Do you let them speak? Or will that be strange? What if they are from fundamentally different parts of their lives?"

Doppleganger style!

No, it hurts the brain.

"Say, you are hosting a dinner party. Perhaps you're getting married. Perhaps you are simply attempting to open up your home at... home to everyone you know on the island. Perhaps the island is hosting a dinner party."

"At least three separate versions of the same relative are going to show up at this party. How do you seat them? Do you think it will go well?"

They've had this headache.

... well, Obi-Wan knew it mostly by proxy. But he was present.

Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka had no idea how badly multiple versions of Anakin would potentially go. None.

"Well, first we'd need some paint." The rest of the class was not going to get clone trooper jokes, Ahsoka.

"Would you be able to convince three separate Anakins that they needed to apply some paint to their... anywhere?" Obi-Wan asked dryly.

"Who said anything about asking his opinion?" Ahsoka replied, the picture of innocence as she flicked her fingers and set some various bits of stationery floating a few centimetres off the desk.

It was an opener use of the Force (that wasn't immediately proceeded by someone trying to kill her) than she'd displayed in months.

Obi-Wan shot her - and her stationary - a dry look.

"Ah, yes," he said, "When you put it like that, I am sure it will all end perfectly well."

He gave a little wave of two fingers, trying to put her stationary down.

She wouldn't even have to hit any of them, once the paint was in play they'd do the work themselves.

"We wouldn't need any entertainment for the the evening, either," she said brightly, fingers curling slightly as she pushed back just enough to keep things were they were.

And Obi-Wan upped his end of the Force pressure just a touch, too.

Did she really want to make a point of this? "No," he said, "I'm certain the resulting brawl will amuse almost all of your guests but the injured."

Some part of her did. The part that felt a very un-Jedilike resentment that she couldn't even play a kriffing youngling's game without having to worry about who saw.

She shrugged shifted her grip on the pens so the difference between her upwards and his downwards pushes made them flip over. "So we couldn't use breakable dinnerware."

Obi-Wan's focus shifted sideways, at least on one pen, causing it to dance diagonally up into the air for a second.

He did, after all, have a sense of humor.

"Or breakable furniture," he said dryly. "Or breakable dinner guests."

Ahsoka relaxed her hold on all but two of the pens, letting them drop, but not so suddenly they'd clatter. The two he kept hold on, she moved into a Shien opening form, reverse grip and all.

"We could have the actual dinner in another room." Or building.

"And risk him blowing a hole in the wall?" Obi-Wan said, stroking his beard as he lifted the cup on his desk to function as something of a shield. "You may wish to think bigger, Ahsoka. He certainly does."

"Oh, believe me, I know." He should have seen some of the battle plans he came up with when Obi-Wan wasn't around to help.

Ahsoka's pens probed his defences, feinting low.

It was oddly relaxing to be sparring with ~~his and Anakin's lovechild~~ Anakin's former Padawan in this fashion. Obi-Wan's defenses were certainly on point, however; he had a way of being wherever she was probing at.

"Then you should know better than to assault several hims with paint at once and hope for the best."

The rest of the class probably had no idea what they were on about, at this point.

That's because he was Master Sticks-to-Soresu, which was fine if you wanted to ~~be boring~~ fight defensively, but Ahsoka had gravitated towards more the offensive forms even before she'd been Anakin's Padawan. Which was why her pens now made a bold overhead attack.

"Rex said it worked on shinies who couldn't decide on a design." Though he'd never specified whether he'd meant as a threat or if he'd actually done it to some poor hapless trooper.

There was nothing wrong with boring. Especially when you were the leading master of the form, as Obi-Wan once again proved when the mug went swinging upwards, catching Ahsoka's pens and knocking them out of their attack pattern.

"And in what galaxy does that sound like Anakin Skywalker?" he asked.

Ahsoka recovered quickly, pens resuming a holding pattern as she looked for an opening.

"One where I can enlist help?" she tried.

The cup tilted almost thoughtfully.

"As hilarious as splattering Anakin in paint would be," Obi-Wan said, his fingers wriggling so the cup moved in, attempting to scoop up her pens, "I believe that would be asking for trouble."

The pens backflipped away from the cup, finally returning to Ahsoka's hand.

"It was too late to avoid that the moment you invited Anakin," she said, ever the respectful Padawan.
