The Living City: Change and the Urban Environment, Friday, Period 3

Anyone who was willing to fight their way over to the school through the blizzard would find two things. First, Bruce, waiting outside the front doors of the school like the weather was nothing to him and his overcoat. Second, a portal.

"Congratulations for making it out with this weather. You're being rewarded with the field trip to the Colombian Exposition right now.," Bruce said. "Enjoy the warmth, and try to behave yourselves." Yes, he had noticed the pollen. If you didn't behave yourselves, he might threaten to send you by the H.H. Holmes Hotel.

The Midway stretched west from the fairgrounds for one mile. Much like today's amusement parks, it had rides, entertainers, and food. In addition, there were many exhibits that replicated foreign cities. Visitors to the fair could drink coffee and listen to n orchestra in an outdoor cafe in Vienna, Austria or ride a camel through the streets of Cairo, Egypt.

On the Midway is the world's first Ferris Wheel. Its 36 cars can hold 60 people each! How romantic!

Check out the State & Foreign Buildings! Or perhaps the US Government Building! Tour the Grand Basin and se the gold leaf shininess of the State of Republic! Check out the Wooly Mammoth replica in the Anthropology Building!

Between the Music Hall and Casino was this public area where some people came to the fair via boat and others sat in seats on a moving walkway for a nice break. By next January, all this stuff would burn down.

There's also a lot of greenery around for quiet tims alone, away from people. Or there's other stuff not mentioned yet. Mod away!

Sparkle

Frankly, Sparkle felt a little ridiculous in the period clothing, but he wasn't going to complain too much. Not when they'd gone and traveled through time to go to Chicago, like, over a century and something ago. Added bonuses were that it was warmer and not pollenated, and it was actually kind of neat, seeing this era in living colour, rather than the old black-and-white photos and muted paintings of the time.

Sparkle wasn't super thrilled about the fact that this place was, you know, an amusement park, and he spared a moment to give the ferris wheel a dirty look, considering he'd died in one of those on the island a while back. But if he just spent the rest of class camped out by the cafe and drinking coffee while listening to the music...

Yeah. Yeah, that was worth the necktie and suit jacket thing going on, here.

Minako Aino

Minako was attired appropriately, and didn't even mind the long skirts too much. She was too busy focusing on the food. She'd braved the snow to make it to class because if she'd stayed in the dorms, she was going to scream. Now? Now she had food and a new city to distract her from... kissy-thoughts.

Jalian d'Arsennette y ken Selvren

Jalian laughed herself sick over the period clothing, then ended up putting on men's clothing. If any of the people here didn't like it, she still had knives.

If any of them really liked it, she wouldn't mind, either. Stupid pollen.

Gwen Stacy

Gwen passed up the period clothing, which she sort of? regretted when she came down here to check things out. It meant she was getting a lot of odd looks, and while normally she would give them odd looks or attitude right back, today she was, um, checking them out. What the hell.

Scenery! Yes, looking at scenery. People are not scener, Gwen.

Kathy Li

Kathy was more than happy to spend extra time in 1883. Every hour she spent not on the island was an hour she wasn't inhaling pollen. Right now, she could be looking at the different types of mortar used to hold the various buildings together and she'd consider it a fair trade.
