Class today started with smart phones. Enough phones to hand out to the entire class while still having a few left over for Tony to do something with them. Like make a new Skrull detector.

Just in case.

His paranoia was perfectly justified, all things considered.

"Alright, everyone have a phone? Good. They're yours now. Enjoy. They're moderately dumbed down versions of the Avengers' cards, so they'll still work in other universes, galaxies, and have a slightly higher chance of surviving the combined destructive force of the Hulk and Hawkeye."

But they would still break. And make Tony cry a little. But they were manly tears.

"Okay, so let's start simple," Tony said, clapping his hands together. "Radio. Yeah, it even sounds old fashioned, right? But, be that as it may, it's still pretty relevant. The basic tech of a radio is how we now have cell phones and wifi."

Fun, right?

"So, we have two basic parts here: a transmitter and a receiver. Transmitter being a power source and some metal connected in some manner to send out electromagnetic energy. The bigger the power source, the further it will travel generally. The receiver would be something like an antenna, a metal rod. This energy travels in waves--picture the ocean. Watching waves come in. The water is the energy, constantly pulsing outwards. Now, of course, we can't see or feel them and they're moving fast enough that thousands happen every second, but they're there."

By the end if the little lecture, Tony had managed to get himself distracted with pulling apart one of the phones he'd brought along to gut the poor thing. It took a moment before he remembered the whole teaching thing. "Homework! Sucks, I know. But apparently I need to take this teaching thing seriously. On my desk are parts and instructions for putting together a basic radio. Do it or don't. It's more fun if you do."

When Tony wasn't cheerfully taking apart a phone or three, he was perfectly available for questions.

Four was listening carefully and taking notes.

Shh, Four was a nerd with a lot of tattoos, okay.

Four was going to get to the radio! Really! But he had a new, shiny phone to play with first.

Nathan Byrn

Nathan had not expected a phone to be gifted to him when he arrived to class. He still wasn't great at handling phones but he wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth either.

But, he did put it down and started trying to slowly sift through the radio parts.

Gwen Stacy

Throughout the lecture Gwen had thought that with instructions, she could totally manage this. Now that she was looking at the instructions and the parts, she was thinking that nope, she probably couldn't manage this.

Or, well, maybe she could, but it was gonna get interesting.

Barry Ween

Cecil Gershwin Palmer

Barry listened to the first part of the lecture and then started to examine his new phone. Which led to him to take apart said phone.

Because he's just a big giant nerd.

Barry was now in the process of putting his phone back together.

He'd get to the radio in a minute.

You had made Cecil's day, Tony!

He perked up at the mention of radio, and never perked back down! This was science he could do!

Cecil didn't need the instructions; he'd totally done this before! AFter all, you weren't much of a Subversive Radio Host (^TM Boy Scouts) if you had to use commercial equipment.

...there seemed to be a bit less oozing involved in this sort of radio. Hm. Well, never mind! He could find something later. He'd just work with the bits he did have first.

Rapunzel (who doesn't have a phone so she's just yelling out a window loudly until someone hears her, the old fashioned way)

Rapunzel would almost certainly get started on building her radio...just as soon as she was done curiously examining the varying parts, anyway.

Most people probably weren't all that excited by tape, but Rapunzel was special.

Anna of Arendelle (who actually uploaded an icon of the picked-out-previously-but-not-used-yet PB just for you, Tony Stark)

Anna was playing with all of the buttons on her phone. Odds on her breaking it before the end of class?

"Are there more buttons inside?" Anna asked. "Or are you just dismantling your new phone for some reason?"

She was still going crazy with button-pushing, here.

"It's sticky," Anna announced excitedly, when she saw what Rapunzel was fussing with. "Isn't that great?"

Yeah. They could be Special Twins, over here.

"I just want to see how this shut works," Barry explained. "How've you been doing after your first week of classes?"

"He said there was a receiver, and a trans-thinger," Anna offered, helpfully. There, Barry! Now he knew how it worked! "I'm doing wonderfully. Do you think it's okay that my roommate's a boy? That's kind of weird but no one here seems to think it's very weird. I've been giving Elsa space."

Some part of her was hoping that if she gave Elsa enough space, Elsa would come looking for her. That theory had yet to work, in the past decade, but she still held out hope.

"Watch your hair," Rapunzel advised sagely.

She had Experience with tape, you see.

"Wanna see something funny?"

Johnny Storm

Johnny was staring at the supplies and was confused. WHERE THE HELL WERE THE CRYSTALS, TONY?

Barry's eyes finally pulled away from the phone. He had a worried look on his face.

"Who's your roommate?"

He'd circle back to Elsa in a minute.

Cosette Fauchelevent

Cosette already had a phone of which she was quite fond, but she wouldn't turn down a second one. This way she could look things up and read two of them at once without having to switch between tabs!

It came in handy while trying to build a radio, which was not going particularly well but she'd keep trying.

"Ezra," Anna said. "I don't remember his second name. He's very -- he seems like he flirts a lot."

"Have you gotten your hair stuck in tape before?" Anna asked. "Oh, no, or bubblegum!? It must take you hours to brush it out."

Still fangirling the hair. Sorry, Rapunzel.

"Sure!" she added. "What's funny?"

"Hmm."

Barry shrugged. This weird protective thing. What was going on here?

"Well I'm sure after being behind closed doors at Arendelle for so long, having classes and roommates is pretty cool for you right now. And Elsa will come out of hiding eventually. She just needs time."
