It was Hatter's first time inside the school building. It was really rather big, wasn't it? Having school inside a castle was a rather novel idea. It made things look distinguished and high brow from the outside. And, on the inside, they let someone like him teach.

Smashing.

He found his classroom easy enough and spent a few moments twirling the inferior chair before he just hopped up on the desk. Yep, that's where he was going to stand. Call it a compensation thing. Or not.

"Good, you're all here," he said once his class had filed in and taken their seats. He tipped his hat to each of them. "I'm Hatter and you've arrived in Business Sense 101. If you're here, you either have some entrepreneurial blood running through your veins or you just really like me. I can't say I find fault with either."

He grinned widely.

"In this class, we're going to explore how to start a business, how to run a business, how to staff a business, and how to make sure your business is profitable. But, it's the first day and who wants to do all that on day one? I think I just want to hear who you are and what you think is the most important part of a business. Tell me loudly. You won't get far in life or in business if you're meek and shy. We're not having that in class. In fact, I want you up on your desks when you introduce yourselves. It's mandatory."

With that, he waved a hand at the class and waited patiently.

Mara Jade

Well, Mara had been taught by Pam and Cheryl, so this was hardly the weirdest request she'd heard.

She climbed up onto the chair with an inward shrug. "I'm Mara Jade," she said, projecting clearly (with her Coruscanti accent), "and I think the most important part of a business is adaptability. You might have a great idea but if the market moves on, you need to as well or you'll be just another failed vegan cupcake place."

"Good one," Hatter said, pointing at her and nodding his agreement. "Restaurants come and go at a ferocious pace because most of them get into business during the latest fad. When that fad passes, they tend to not know what to do with themselves. Adaptability is a big, big thing."

Edward Kenway

Edward got on that chair without much argument. "My name is Edward Kenway," he called, "and being on good terms with your customers, I'd say, being able to use your gab."

"Always an important part of owning and running a business," Hatter agreed, nodding. "If you don't have customers, you don't have cash flow and if you don't have cash flow, you don't have a business. And everyone wants to have money lining their pockets, right? Be nice to the customers."

Ezra Sagishi

Hatter had a pretty obedient class gathered here, because Ezra hopped onto his chair without a second thought. "I am Ezra Sagishi," he bellowed, his arms outstreched in a grandiose gesture, "and I think the most important part of a business is good marketing!"

He'd considered going with 'being scarier than your competitors', but maybe that was just Venus.

"Ah, marketing!" Hatter repeated, grinning. "The ever present idea of spending money to show the world that you're the best, you're the cleanest, you're the most forward thinking, or whatever! The type of thing with cartoons and catch phrases and swanky jingles! The kind of thing that gets eyes on your business! Very good!"

Ezra looked smug as he hopped off the chair again, to take his seat.

"Thank you."

"And you've already cornered the tea trade," Mara said, smiling.

"In two different places now," Hatter bragged proudly. "Here and back where I'm from. I put all other tea businesses out to pasture."
