Today the Danger Shop was looking a lot like the BWI airport, which if the students had taken the shuttle in, they were at least a little familiar with.

"Morning, guys. So this is our travel section, if you hadn't already figured that out," Kitty said. "I think you're all familiar with portals by now, so today I'm going to introduce you to one of our more common forms of getting between long distances here: the airplane. In reality it's going to be a lot more hassle than you'll see here, and there are a lot of rules about what you can bring on planes and what you can't, and we're not going to get into that today. In fact I programmed the Danger Shop for a lot fewer people than you'll normally see, too, and you're welcome. We're going to be going through the very basics here: getting your ticket, getting through security, and actually getting to do a little bit of flying as passengers. And of course if you have problems with heights or flying even in a simulation, let me know and I won't make you do it."

Like you get to fly the friendly skies today!

Short and sweet.

"I'm giving you all a confirmation number and something to use as an ID," Kitty said, handing them out. "You can either use that and go to the automated machine, or you can go to the counter and deal with a person. Up to you."

As the guy at the little desk thingie checked ID's, Kitty told them, "You have to take one of these little bins and put your stuff in there. Shoes, bags, belts, jackets, sweaters, those all come off and go in one of these, and then you slide it through the machine so they know you're not bringing anything dangerous on the plane. They don't want anything that can be used as a weapon, which for some reason includes any liquids above three ounces so if you have it, they'll confiscate it or throw it out. Once you put your stuff through, you can step through the metal detector, and if they don't find anything on you, you can get your things and go find your gate."

Good news, class! You were the only people on your 747! Meaning you could sit wherever you wanted and didn't have to worry about anyone kicking your seat or encroaching on your very limited personal space.

"First off, this sucks so much more when you're not in the Danger Shop," Kitty said. "Your bags go either under your seat or in the bins above you, and when you get to your seat you want to be buckled in unless you're moving around. We're even gonna skip the safety video but if you ever get on a plane for real, watch it. Okay, I think that's it. Enjoy the flight."

So yes, then students would get to experience takeoff, landing, and the flight between both. Feel free to get up and talk to people, and the drink cart will be right by.

Who's a bigger fan of flying when it's in a Blackbird, personally.

Is it wrong I miss airports when I haven't been in them in a while?

Cosette spent the lecture taking in her surroundings with a curious expression. Strictly speaking she'd gotten to Fandom by walking across the causeway, but even if you wanted to count the rest of the process of getting from 19th century Paris to 21st century Fandom, that had at no point involved an airplane. (Several fiacres, a very choppy boat ride to England, a portal, and a cab or two, but no airplane.)

So this would be a new experience. She was not opposed.

Cosette briefly considered using the machine, then decided to go to the counter instead, thinking it would be easier and more pleasant than just some impersonal old machine.

Cosette was still very naïve. The agent was taciturn and a bit on the surly side, but she managed to charm a fairly nice interaction out of the woman with her wide-eyed, earnest politeness . . . which she was starting to learn to consciously use to her advantage.

Edward Kenway

Edward could be found muttering the word 'airplane?' over and over to himself, quietly.

This seemed... odd, to say the least. Take to the skies?

The shaking? The shaking was disconcerting, especially since Edward had not previously been aware it was possible for humans to fly.

But then the shaking stopped and they were in the air, and his face was plastered to the window and it was going to remain there for the entire trip.

Nathan really wanted to use the machine so...he was going to try there first. He thought that maybe using the tablet Barry had given him would help him out.

...the first thing he did was choose Spanish for the language he wanted to use. So, this was going well, so far!
