Meditation & the Art of Kicking Ass [Thursday, September 11, 2014]

"After a fairly...trying...weekend," Anakin said, running his hand through his short-cropped hair, "I could certainly use some time meditatively hitting things." He waved his hand toward the boxing gloves and headgear piled in the corner and waited for everyone to get equipped before continuing. "So today we're going to work on some self-defense boxing techniques. Boxing is extremely pragmatic--if it doesn't work, boxers don't use it. It also is focused on arms and protecting the chest instead of kicking like many martial art techniques. With so many of you being novices to self-defense, I figured it would be easier to concentrate on one body part at a time."

Anakin led them through a quick series of basic one-two combinations, then put them up against the heavy bags. "You can either spend your time here or head to the more advanced area where the Danger Shop will give you a holographic opponent who might look a lot like the characters from the 1980s version of Mike Tyson's Punch Out to spar against. The key to this is to keep moving. Don't just stand there and get punched, okay?"

Question! Every time you throw a punch will the danger shop call out what you are doing? And will your body become semi transparent with green outlines?

Some how Barry had ended up with some guy named "Glass Joe" as his opponent. Barry didn't spend much time taking him out but was constantly distracted by a green outline surrounding himself and the danger shop calling out his punches.

Weird.

Scott was doing his best to do things exactly as they'd been demonstrated, but he was also holding back. A lot.

He really didn't want to have to explain broken equipment, even if it wasn't a real punching bag.

Yeah, Johnny knew what was up. That's why he made sure he got King Hippo as an opponent. Stall, stall, stall, then unleash the best combo he could directly into the guy's belly when the time came.

If only all fights were like this.

Kira wasn't holding back as she punched the bag, because she kind of wanted to see what her strength was getting like. Her form was getting a little better, thanks to Anakin's earlier advice, and she had to admit, it was a little easier to keep hitting the back quickly now that she was doing it better.

Sia decided to try sparring with a partner, and was assigned someone called "Bald Bull." She did pretty well, but he got more shots in than she would have liked because she kept getting distracted by his head.
