Joker wasn't all that confident in his ability to get past Riley's security. At least not on his own.

So he spent the class trying to get his rootkit onto everyone else's computers (well, some of them), and then was able to launch a coordinated attack on Riley's system from a few directions at once. Not a fruitful attack, mind you, but an attack nonetheless.
