It was the holiday celebrating the birth of this country and it was also Flash's first day of class. This hardly seemed fair. He was a veteran! Oh well, he'd get over it. He was doing class on the beach, after all, so it couldn't be that bad.

It certainly looked like he had his artificial legs on, but he was actually using the symbiote today. Because have you ever tried artificial legs or a wheelchair on sand? Nope, he was cheating.

"Morning, everyone. My name is Flash Thompson, but for as long as I'm teaching any kind of phys ed workshop or class, I'd prefer if you called me Coach. Blame it on playing too much football in high school if you need to, but I promise that's the most demanding thing I'll ask of you the next couple months."

"Well, that, plus giving it your all every day and having some fun with these games," Flash amended. "Since today's a pretty important holiday and there's going to be a beach party a little later anyway, we're just going to use the net that's already been set up and play some beach volleyball. And since we an odd number of people in this workshop, one of the teams gets me. But I'm not exactly the most mobile player around, so I promise it won't be too much of an advantage."

"I'm going to go over the rules, give you some time to practice bumping, and then we're just going to start playing. And when it's your first turn to serve, introduce yourself to the class. Name, what grade you're going into this fall, and what your favorite sport is."

Like it's a holiday! But you're in class... but it's on the beach! But your teacher's legs aren't saying it, but they totally want to eat your brains... but they won't, because of drugs!

I hope you have an icon for that.

First an intro, then the rules, then go ahead and practice a bit. Bumps, spikes, trying not to instinctively catch the ball...

There are several volleyballs to practice with for the moment!

Team A wins this week, whoever is randomly in Team B next week will win, and we'll alternate week by week. Just have some fun out there.

"I'll serve first since I should introduce myself first," Flash said, taking the ball and going to the corner of the court for the service.

"I'm Corporal Eugene 'Flash' Thompson, US Army. I've taught a few gym classes at public schools and rec centers in the past. And my favorite sport is football. You'll see how much I enjoy it in the coming weeks, I'm sure. Zero serving zero!"

And then he served.

Basically, just serve and introduce yourselves. Maybe play a point or two with people. Have some fun out there.

Kathy was first up on her team to serve. It was a lot harder to serve the ball and make it go where she wanted to, as opposed to tossing it, but hey, she was game.

...She was also very pleased to discover that her crazy-insane balance also worked on sand. There had been one minute when she'd leaned forward to get the ball before it hit the ground and would have toppled over except, well, she hadn't. Score one for awesome agility powers!

"I'm Kathy Li, I'll be a junior, and my favorite sport is rhythm gymnastics," she said. "Zero serving zero!" Not a great serve, but the ball went over the net. She was calling it good.
