Community Service and You, Friday, Period 2, The Community Center

Class was at the Community Center today, only it wasn't JUST class. It was the Fandom High Gala Brunch and all were invited! attendance was mandatory for the people in Bruce's workshop, of course, but people from around town and NPC wealthy donors from the mainland were invited as well.

"Welcome to our last workshop of the semesster," Bruce said. After being dressed down regularly for this workshop, he was once again in one of his nicer suits. "And more importantly, welcome to our charity brunch gala benefitting Fandom High. All proceeds from this event will go towards funding Fandom High's activities, including but not limited to trips, magical safety protocols, and textbooks for the more traditional elements of your education."

"You have three goals today. First, mingle and make sure the donors in attendance understand how valuable the Fandom High experience is so that they know to make a healthy donation," Bruce explained. "Second, have some brunch. Third, enjoy yourselves."

Dressed up!

Bruce's students, go out and talk up NPCs, each other, what have you!

Anyone else who wants to give money to Fandom or just get some brunch, feel free to join them!

There are tables set up and servers ready to bring you food and drink.

All sorts of brunch foods and drinks are available and moddable. No alcohol, though. It's a school event benefiting a school and it's morning.

Give them a round of applause for being so great this session!

Who is done teaching and you can't make him go back to it!

So tired. I mean, last night when I was going to go to bed, I apparently just decided that the exact position I was in on the couch was good enough, so I just stayed there and snored until 3 AM. When I actually got to bed, I think I lasted two minutes before being asleep again.

And now to work, trying desperately to meet a deadline that I've already whizzed by!

Bay slicked her hair into a high ponytail and put on a dress that, unlike most of her formalwear, actually wasn't black. (Okay, so it was black and purple, but baby steps, right?)

She planned to enjoy the gala, even though she was a little sad about the no-champagne thing.

Evan Sabahnur

Magical safety protocols actually sounded pretty darn important to Evan, as did money going into the school. He knew quite well that there were people here who had nowhere else to go, and so he was wearing his best smile, looking to impress the prospective benefactors.

It was probably a good thing he'd decided to leave OL back in his room today.

Barry Ween

Barry wasn't that much for fancy clothes but he did clean up quite well (http://latimesherocomplex.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/joshhutcherson.jpg)

Marasiah Fel

Sia was actually pretty good at this sort of thing. There was a reason she got sent in to do the diplomacy in her father's stead a lot of the time. So she was totally fine talking to people and subtly trying to talk up the reasons they should donate as much as they were able.

Cosette Fauchelevent

Cosette had prevailed upon her father to buy her a nice outfit for the occasion, but while she herself was adapting to modern fashion she wouldn't go so far as to abuse his indulgence where she was concerned by choosing clothes that would be a shock to his circa-1829 sensibilities.

So while her dress and hat might be a little too mature for a girl her age by the standards of her own time (gasp, that neckline was a centimeter too low) she mostly came across as charmingly old-fashioned, and she knew it.

So don't think she was above using that effect to convince donors to give a little more. Her earnestness would probably help with that too, as would her visible excitement at learning so many interesting new things about this time, do you realize she never dreamed these things would be possible?

Kathy realized a little late that her outfit might get her confused with the waitstaff, but she was just going to roll with it.

And if she was focusing on the benefits of Fandom's self-directed studies, well, after her last class, who could blame her?
