How to Be Awesome, Tuesday, Period 3

Kate had had some totally awesome plans for today's lesson. None of them had included waking up feeling like she was coming down with something that made it hard to brain. She should've stayed at home, probably, but she was too stubborn for that. But the students were still getting a movie day. The Danger Shop was running a movie theater sim, though, so at least there was that?

"Today we're... covering the awesome of relaxing with entertainment. Yes." Nicely phrased for someone trying hard not to slump too much in her seat at the back of the theater. "So we're watching I Was A Teenage Teenager. Try to spot potentialy awesome things. Or boggle at the ultra nineties fashions. Or, just enjoy it. Let's just watch it."

Rapunzel

Alana

"I don't get it," Alana admitted. "Maybe it's that I don't get the references, but everyone just seems spoiled and sort of whiny. The only one I could stand was ~~meta~~Tai."

"I liked the big brother!" Rapunzel offered. "Or...her step-brother, or whatever he was. That was kind of weird, with them getting together at the end since they were...like, kind of siblings? But at least he was a voice of reason."

She hadn't really cared for any of the other main characters, though. Except maybe that sleepy kind of boy with the long hair that rode the board with wheels on it. He had seemed very nice.

"He's not too bad," Alana agreed. "But, like, why does he end up with the girl? First off, she's kind of his sister, so that's gross, and second off it seems like he could do a lot better."

"He totally could," Rapunzel agreed. "As much as I liked him, it did seem weird that they all of a sudden ended up together. Especially since she was so annoying and he was always having to bail her out of stuff. Also, siblings or something, so that's gross."

Raven Darkholme

"I didn't really understand about half of what they said," Raven admitted. "But what I did understand sounded kind of like some of the girls I knew at home." Rich and shallow was still rich and shallow, even across generations, it seemed. "At least the main character figures out she's kind of terrible by the end of it."

Ichabod Crane

Forgive Ichabod for just staring at the screen during the first half. It was the first time ever he had watched a movie, and it took him a while to get used to the idea.

"One can find young ladies of a similar personality even where I am from," Ichabod agreed, relieved that he wasn't the only one having trouble understanding the dialogue.

Ichabod was here, and quite confused, as much by the idea of moving images as by the movie itself.

There was a lot of slang in there. And they never seemed to finish their words or sentences. "It might be universal," Raven said. "You grow up with a certain amount of money and nothing to think about other than fashion, and it's the only thing you can think about."

"Perhaps I had hoped that a wider access to education would have changed such matters, but clearly that is not the case," Ichabod replied.

"That's true. You can send people to school all you want and some of them will still spend all their time thinking about fashion and boys." Honestly, if Raven were not capable of altering her own fashion choices on a whim -- and terrified that most boys would see her natural form and run away screaming -- she might be the same way.

Flick

"And she's a lot younger than him?" Alana offered, thinking about it some more. "Like, maybe not in years, but he seemed like he could take care of himself and she didn't. But maybe she'd make hims mile, so that would be good."

"Maybe that's why I didn't like it," Alana said, turning to smile at Raven. "The girls I knew like that at home, they never seem to realize they're terrible."

"It's pretty rare," Raven agreed. "And it probably takes much more than just being insulted by your friend to do it." She was pretty sure that was what happened. Being a virgin and not being able to drive weren't exactly insults when she was from, but 'way harsh' seemed to have a pretty clear interpretation.

"I find it a strange choice, but then we are not all alike, are we?" Ichabod said. "Not to have something of a deeper importance in your life."

"Well, they are only teenagers," Raven said. "They might find it, eventually."
