"Morning, guys," Kitty greeted the class when they got to the Danger Shop. "We're going to get started right away, so everyone find a spot where you have some room, because we're going to work on last week's stretches while I tell you guys what we're going to be doing today."

She did the stretches along with them, because it was the second week and they might've forgotten, explaining, "Today we're doing ballet, my personal favorite, and probably the one people think of first when they think 'dance'. It's storytelling. A ballet is like a play or an opera without any words. You're just selling the story with your body and movements. There's a big focus on grace and flexibility, and seeing a whole dance put together is just gorgeous, and a lot of fun to do, even if it's tough. We're just going to be doing the basics today, and learning a short routine that hopefully you'll all be great at by the end of class. And if we're all feeling limber enough now, stand on up and we'll get started on learning foot positions."

While stretching!

"In ballet, whenever your feet are on the ground they're going to be in one of five positions," Kitty said, and demonstrated. "Some of the last ones might feel a little unnatural, but do your best and it'll feel better the more you do it."

Don't feel bad if you fall over in fifth position, kids. It's probably happened to a few people through history.

Once the foot positions were learned, Kitty continued, "We don't have enough time to perfect every move one by one in class, so I'm going to run through a quick routine. On the second time, you guys join in, and we'll work on it till we get good. If anyone needs any help, I'll be around to correct you."

And with that she showed them a simple routine that would probably trip some people up the first couple times, but should be easy enough to get down by the end of class. How're you doing, boy and girls?

Who might be a little squeeful over getting to do this one.

I kinda miss ballet.

Sparkle

Sparkle was pretty certain that human ankles weren't actually intended to do that. Still, he followed along as best as he could, his tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth a little as he did so.

Eesh, ballet.

Oh, hey. A little spin in there and everything. Sparkle followed along... decently well, actually, grinning a bit as he did so.

The grin was mostly because the arm gestures made him think of Canadian children's programming that used to play in reruns while he was growing up.

He was going to have Skinnamarink stuck in his head for days.

Rapunzel

Oh, yay! Rapunzel knew about ballet already, and had practiced a lot in her tower. She wasn't, like, a real ballerina or anything -- mostly because she usually got tangled in her hair when she tried to spin -- but the five positions came very easily.

True to form, Rapunzel tried her very best at the routine and was fine until the spin...which ended with her wound up in her hair like a little burrito, like usual. (Not that she knew about burritos.)

Sigh.

Alana

First position was easy. Second position was even easier. But third, fourth and fifth ... Alana had always thought she was pretty graceful, but it was hard to feel that way with her legs getting tangled with each other all the time.

Minako Aino

Kira Yukimura

Kira had totally considered herself to be a flexible person, but once she hit that fourth position, things got a little wobbly.

Kathy Li

Kathy wasn't sure if it was actually possible to practice those positions without rotating her wrists, too. No matter how much she tried, as soon as she stopped paying attention to her hands to focus on her feet, they'd end up turned around, palms out.

The human body was weird sometimes. Or at least hers was.

Kathy had experience learning routines, so one this simple was easy to follow.

And keeping her hands curved in front of her helped with that annoying wrist thing!
