"Hey," Kaidan greeted as the students filed into the class. He was leaning back against his desk, his arms crossed.

"So today, I want to talk about something a little lighter," he said. If their weekend had been anything like his-- they could use it. "I want to talk about our powers in our daily life. I mean, we've all got our struggles - our tiny every day struggles. When we get annoyed or frustrated. When we get tempted to take a shortcut and cheat a little. Or maybe your powers just have an ongoing influence on how your routine works."

He reached up to run his hand over his hair. "Like... my biotics generate static electricity. That's got a couple of side-effects; I'm always giving myself static shocks. And I need an hour in the bathroom every morning, just to make sure my hair doesn't get... uh... crazy."

As opposed to the over-gelled pile of... strange that he made out of it instead.

"So... you can share, today. Nothing big, nothing heavy. Let's just take a minute to complain about when our powers are a pain in the ass, or admit to times we used them for really mundane tasks. That's part of this too."

How do your powers come into play with the little things?

It's a pretty easy one this week, because Kaidan doesn't want to push it too hard. He cut the usual movement exercises short by about a quarter, and spent the meditation session on soothing things.

Like... a star-filled sky or a waterfall.

... He hoped nobody actually wound up making any water.

For anything else you'd like to share today.

He's sticking around the classroom after class finishes, as per usual.

I love my canon because it gives me random details about the way biotics affect people's lives. And other random details of life in general, really.

"I haven't really been using my powers for daily things too much since I'm still learning about them but I suppose I could grab things from across the room when I'm too lazy to get up," Will said, thinking of that one off the top of his head. "Not that being lazy is a good thing but still."

Evan Sabahnur

"I use my stretching and shapeshifting for a lot of things every day," Evan admitted. "I don't have to worry about tall shelves, you know? Or reaching something across the room if my dog is sitting in my lap and I don't want to wake him up. And I've only accidentally tied myself in knots a few times."

A beat.

"I've gotten better about that last part."

Billy Kaplan

"Sometimes, I try to cast spells for really stupid things," Billy said. "Like getting stuff from across the room. I've tried it to make my hair behave too, but I'm pretty sure there's no force that's gonna make that happen."

"I use my powers to put my hair up every morning," Celia said ruefully, gesturing to the neat knot of curls atop her head. "The weekend I lost them, I had to wear it down. It was miserable. But aside from that...honestly, I use them for everything. Pouring my tea, getting things down from high shelves, making the bed, lacing my boots, lacing -- other things." She blushed faintly. "Back home, I'm not allowed to use my hands unless I absolutely must. I'm half-blind and clumsy without my magic. It's a bit of a handicap, in all honesty."

Eleanor Lamb

"There were people back home who used Incinerate to light cigarettes," Eleanor said with a faint smile. "It doesn't have to be your whole hand. It can be controlled, like this."

She held her hand out, index finger extended up in the air. Emerging from it was a tiny flame, as if her finger was a candle.

"If you lose your powers again, I'll braid it for you," Eleanor offered. It was the one hairstyle she knew how to do, and her hair was too short for it. That was why she never bothered to do more than brush her own.

"Dealing with Protocol with other Blood is a bitch and a half," Surreal confessed. "Who has the darker Jewel, who has a caste, which caste outranks which..."

Jackson Whittemore

"You're a lifesaver," Celia said with a grateful smile over at her friend. "I can't even do that much neatly without magic. I never really appreciated how clumsy I am until my crutch was gone, really."

Kathy Li

Vider Bearskin

"I don't sleep very much, and I have a lot of extra energy I need to burn off," Vider said. "So I do a lot of pushups at night."
