"Technically speaking, vigilantism is illegal in most places," Batman said. "And it's very easy to anger the police who might think you're showing them up. That's why it pays to have some friends among the local authorities."
"When I started my war on crime, Gotham City had plenty of corruption in the system. I found the most decent cop I knew, showed him that all I wanted was to help, and that started a fruitful relationship. Now he's the police commissioner and he specifically calls me in on cases he thinks could use some outside help."
"I happened to be familiar with a case this man worked when he was a beat cop. When I became the Batman, I decided to follow his career and make sure he was still the man I knew. My investigation showed nothing remotely sketchy and some creativity.
