Science You Cannot Possibly Comprehend, Monday, Period 5

If you were in the science lab today, class, you were in the wrong place. Doom sent you a notice to go to the Danger Shop. Why were you not there? Doom was.

If you made it to the Shop, you'd find that it looked like a large aircraft hanger, but it was completely empty aside from yourselves and some large, vaguely humanoid shapes hidden in shadow in the distance.

"Today, we shall discuss suits of armor. My world is filled with advanced armors and exoskeletons that allow their wearers enhanced strength and the gift of flight. From the Beetle to MACH IV, Crimson Dynamo to the Titanium Man, the Guardsmen to the Jury, suits of armor have been a common way for normal people to become super people," Doom explained.

"Most people credit a man named Tony Stark for starting the armor revolution when he created the Iron Man suit," Doom explained. A screen showing photos of Iron Man armor through the years appeared behind him. "He started with a needlessly bulky design that eventually evolved into sleek, useful armors. As we approach the present day, even I must admit that the Iron Man armor is one of the two most advanced armors in my world."

"Of course, all Stark has done with his design is trod along the path originally set by Doom," Doom said. Come on, you knew that was coming. "I had developed my prototypical armor before leaving Fandom High in my junior year in order to free my home land from a tyrannical ruler. Stark was an adult, a known weapons contractor, before he built the original Iron Man."

"Since that time, Stark has primarily focused on the Iron Man while I have diversified my focus to time travel, robotics, magic, and being the ruler of a country. Yet all he has done is close the gap, not overtaken me," Doom said. "Truly, he is lucky that he has only occasionally attracted my attention, else he would see his livelihood destroyed."

"Today, I give you two options. You will not be building a suit of armor today. Tony Stark has practice building armors from scratch and even he would not be able to accomplish it in a class period. Instead, if you choose to learn, I will teach you to program armor to obey your commands. It will be a difficult lesson, but at least some of you should be up to the challenge."

"If you would prefer to ignore the finer points of learning, you may instead experience what it is like to fly and battle in armor designed by another person. In your case, I have chosen the Full Acclimation Combat And Defense Explo-skeleon armor. Or, as they clearly wanted to name it before finding some justification for the acronym, F.A.C.A.D.E."

"The original F.A.C.A.D.E. vexed a low-level superhero known as Spider-Man for a brief time before being nearly forgotten by history. The armor is nothing terribly special. It will, however, grant you the basic powers of flight, strength, laser blasts emitted from the hands, and an adequate stealth capability," Doom said, essentially in a long sigh. "You may fly around the shop. You may fight each other if you so choose. The Danger Shop's protocols are in effect, protecting you from any actual danger. I trust that this is what the school considers to be irony."

Topher liked the idea of flying, but he loved the idea of learning to program armor, which was a skill that it was probably safe to say Topher should never, ever learn. Oh, well! Deal with it, universe!

Yeah, Jim decided he didn't want to learn to build armor. He wanted to fly around in said armor. He knew, in his time, most things came equipped with armor already so really no need for him to give it a go.

Flying was more fun.

Sometimes these lectures were just so weird, like Karolina wasn't sure she was even here. Because it was all trippy for someone with her background.

She decided against raising her hand to point out they'd had a teenaged Tony Stark here, and that she was pretty sure he'd already had an Iron Man suit.

Why not? Learning sounded kinda fun. And that armor looked...weird.
