Criminal Justice, Friday, Period 1
The Danger Shop looked quite a bit like a courtroom today, only with a big projection screen where the judge would normally be. What could be going on?
"Today we're going to watch a live trial. However, since most courts in the area don't allow students led by a man in a bat costume to be spectators, I had to make special arrangements," Batman explained as the screen started to show the interior of a courtroom.
"I have an agent inside a courthouse in Gotham City right now. "This is the trial of a man who calls himself Killer Croc. He actually traffics in robbery and extortion more than murder, but it's still an appropriate nickname. He's still a massive strong-man with armored skin and no problems with killing. He's on trial for a jewelry store heist. Being caught for something like that is generally beneath Croc, but even career criminals have bad days."
"Croc's lawyer is going to plead insanity, which is a common tactic where I'm from," Batman said. "It should be noted that it's used so often because many of the costumed villains actually are legitimately insane. Rather than imprisoning or executing them, the system in Gotham genuinely tries to cure them."
"Croc has had a harder time than most of my rogues getting insanity pleas to stick. Generally speaking, he's of a sound mind and has simply chosen a life of crime because he's reasonably good at it. But over the years, his body and his mind have become more animalistic so he may be able to argue that he wasn't in control of his actions."
"It looks like they're about to start. If you have any questions, speak up. Otherwise, watch what happens."

Then watch the trial. Ask questions if you have any!
Courthouse Brawl
That's when Croc threw the defense table at the psychiatrist. It progressed quickly, with guards trying to use tasers on Croc that couldn't penetrate his hide. But after just a minute, a black-clad, mulleted figured crashed through the courthouse window, leaped at Croc, and started punching him with electrified knuckles.
At this point, Batman started speaking again. "That is one of my allies, Nightwing. Once he finishes restoring order, court will go into recess as Croc is taken back to a special holding cell. More than likely, they'll try to continue tomorrow and they'll get some special manacles delivered from Metropolis, where they deal with super-powered criminals more often."
"And yes, this happens in Gotham more than I'd like. And this is an improvement over what it used to be," Batman said.

He'd dragged his ass out of the rec room for long enough to sit it down here. But don't expect him to do anything more than squint at the... was that a Trandoshan?
"Huh."
