Student Council [Friday, Lunchtime]

The table in the student council room was filled with subs and chips today, along with bottles of soda and tea. There was also a Grace at the table, working her way through a turkey sandwich one layer at a time, because she was still at an age where she could totally get away with that sort of thing.

"Hi folks. I think we started making some good plans for Thanksgiving last time," she said once everyone was settled in. "So, my suggestion would be to hammer everything out there, and think of anything we might want to work on after that."

I can make an early post on Thanksgiving for great SP justice while everyone's dealing with relatives. :) We've just got to figure out where to stick everyone, not dirty!

"Yes, we are going to potluck it," Zoe said with a smirk. "I'm not sure how cheetos and turkey will go together, but if you bring enough for everyone..."

"I... don't know what that is," Zoe said. She could guess from the name though.

Cecil boggled at her for a moment, then flailed. "It's...exactly what it sounds like? Everyone dresses up like their favorite dead person - or, well, whichever one they have the clothes for, I suppose - and there's judging and remembering, and hooded figures, but I think you don't have them here."

Cordelia was claiming that before anyone else did. Not that dip was a traditional Thanksgiving food but it's what she brought, okay.

"I'm going to be stuck fighting with the turkey, aren't I?" Jessica asked. Too slow, Jess. Too slow. The easy stuff was taken care of. "And by 'fighting with' I mean 'struggling to prepare.' I'm not fighting a turkey."

"You don't need to fight a turkey, I've got that," Zoe assured her. "There might be fighting involved, but I promise it will be edible."

"Nooo," Zoe said slowly, "although that sounds a bit closer to Halloween. Our traditions stick mostly to being together with family and friends and eating everything in sight. But, taking time for remembering those who can't be here seems... thoughtful."

"Oh, yes!" Cecil nodded and grinned brightly. "And fun! And occasionally traumatic. But it's important!"

A few years ago, Zoe might have been able to say no, but her defenses had definitely weakened through repeated exposure to students like Cecil. "I suppose there's certainly room for new traditions. Everyone should get to feel comfortable and at home on a holiday." Unless she was going to regret saying yes.

Cecil looked like Christmas Thanksgiving had come early. "Neat!" He chewed on his lip and thought for a moment. "We'll need a place to have it, and judges. That's usually the City Council, but I don't think you have one of those here, either." Talk about really weird!

"We have a school board, but they are the opposite of fun and shouldn't be anywhere near the island," Zoe said with a nod. "The community center is open for a lot of things."
