Around the World in Seven Weeks [Tuesday, August 20, 2013]

"Well, this is the seventh week," Anakin said, "which means this is your last trip through a portal for a while."

Some of the students might be a little grateful for that, a thought Ben had also had, judging from the bemused look on his face. "So today we'll go to Europe. Something nice and easy in Finland! You don't even have to eat something weird!"

Like you ALWAYS KNEW IT WAS TUESDAY.

Both options are methods by which Finnish athletes keep themselves in shape during the warmer months ~~Rly. Don't confirm with Corrie.~~ In Swamp This, you have to put a pair of cross country skis and trudge through a 1 mile course in a muddy field. It's great for the legs.

In Swamp That, you have to take an obstacle course through the same bog. You needed to crawl, climb and carry a Finnish Olympic athlete (none of them tiny and light) during parts of the course, and proceed to the finish line without dropping said athlete to get the next clue.

Ride a bike down a steep hill and search the Lohja mine for a marked dig site and get a piece of limestone. Then, after attaching the limestone to their bike, go back to the start point and use tools to break it open to get the next clue which was inside the limestone and tells you where to meet your insane teachers.

The guys are waiting with towels and drinks because they're not completely heartless.

Such a long day, ya'll. SUCH A LONG DAY.

Theo didn't know why but he chose to ski through the mud. It didn't sound that hard and he was a skateboarder so he figured he could do it.

And then he got stuck in the mud. And he got stuck good to the point where he had to unhook himself from the skis, rip them out of the mud and then put them back on to get going again.

Needless to say, he was way behind by the time he finished.

Theo was already exhausted when he got to this task. And since he was already far behind, he just took his time with finding the rock and loading the rock. He wasn't going to chance dropping the rock on his foot or anything like that.

Originally, Kathy had thought to take the obstacle course. Upon seeing the athletes she was going to have to carry, however, she immediately "Nope!"'d and strapped herself into the cross country skis.

She had no idea how to cross country, but she could walk and her light frame kept her from sinking too far into the mud.

She gave Theo a sheepish wave as she passed him, but kept going.

On the off-chance Kathy was worried that she'd lost time in the mud, the trip down the hill more than made up for it. She was pretty sure she was going almost forty miles an hour by the time she hit the bottom, praying "Please don't die, please don't let me die," the whole way down.

She found the limestone easily enough and managed to jury-rig it to her bike which she then walked back up the hill. Because obviously now.

"Ugh," Kathy said, making grabby hands for a drink. She needed all the water after that climb. Give her a minute and she might even notice no one else was here yet.

Theo trudged in and knew he was pretty much at the bottom of the pack this time around. He took a drink and just had to laugh.

"I got stuck in the mud," he said.
