Improving Your Skills [Friday, 3rd Period]

This week's class was in a regular classroom and hey, Clint was actually there as a healthy human. "Hey guys. Did you miss me?" he said with a smirk. "You don't have to tell me out loud, I know in your hearts the answer is yes. I wanted to have a kind of discussion today. Let's say, hypothetically speaking, you lived in a world where the general assumption was that you're alone in the universe and then one day, without warning, the sky opened up over a major city and aliens showed up. And not nice aliens either, but mean ones with weird faces who're bent on destroying everything in their path. Aside from the obvious job of taking down said aliens, what are some of the skills that might be needed to keep people safe? Or, you know, put the world back together after the party's over?" For a unique definition of the word "party" of course.

"Crowd control skills," Stephanie spoke up seriously. "Especially since in a situation like that people will stampede, because it's instinct. An instinct that oh-so-conveniently, by which I mean not, feeds into how a big crowd, especially one that's screaming its head off or hyperventilating, is really easy pickings."

William found himself nodding in agreement with Stephanie's statement. "And organizational skills," he added. "Because no matter how efficient you are at getting people to settle down, groups will be separated. There should be someone compiling information that will assist in reuniting people with missing friends or loved ones."

"Being good at communicating helps, too," Stephanie said, snapping her fingers. "Like . . . having to tell people that they're trapped in a certain place until someone can clear a path, or that they can't get in touch with a different group, or other less-than-good news? People who can do that in the . . . okay, I don't want to say best way possible, but the most diplomatic one? People who can do that without really making the panic freakouts way worse."

"First aid skills, because I'll bet people are getting hurt all over the place," suggested Ryan.
