Introduction to Archaeology, Period 5

Daniel is clearly lost in thought today, but he manages to notice his students come in.

The TV which is normally in the corner has been pulled out, and there's soda and a small selection of snacks at the front.

"Right. Sorry for last week class. My former employees still like for me to do some consulting for them, and they needed me unexpectedly.

Today, we're going to start off by watching a video, which is going to show a lot of what we've been talking about these past few weeks, with archaeological methods.

Help yourself to the snacks, by the way."

He dims the lights, and they settle in to watch the video.

At the end of the video, Daniel puts another in.

"This one will be taking us to our next discussion topic - archaeology and the media"

After that one has finished, he raises the lights and turns back to the class.

"With the internet, access to archaeology has become even easier. Is this a good or a bad thing, do you think? What about archaeology on television? Have any of you seen any of the programs? I'll hopefully have a link copy of some of them for the next lesson."

Whoa, that second video was bizarre. What the heck was with the creeptastic music and the funky camera work?!

"As commercial as the first video was, I did like it. So is 70% of archaeology really lab work?" Blair bounced a little. "I haven't really watched a lot of television archaeology, but it seems to me if it's going to provide funds to build replicas for testing, it can't be all bad."

"I never really watched a lot of TV before I came here, but I remember Annika really liked this show on the History Channel called 'Rhoner's Egypt' a few years back." she mused.

"I guess it's good because it makes people aware and that would help with funding... But I think it's also bad... Because it would probably attract pirates. Any time there's stories of treasure ya get pirates. They're like that."

Pippi crinkled her nose.

"Stupid sexy pirates."

"Hmmm...there's the possibility that they'll disturb sites in a rush to produce a program. But I think the biggest disadvantage would be them falsifing information in order to make history more exciting."
