Sword & Shield: Tactics, Wednesday
Today for class there were not the usual teachers waiting for them. Well. They were the right ones, just not the right age at the moment.
Nothing bad could ever come of this, right kids?
"I am Ser Jaime Lannister of the Kingsguard," one of them said, chin held high because it was possibly a very new honor. Yeah. Sorry, Dany. "And my--companion is--"
His companion was a scrawny blond who was going to stop coughing into his handkerchief (wow, that cough sounded bad) long enough to say, “Oh, I’m Steve, Steve Rogers.” He waved awkwardly at the class. “Hello.” Yeah. “I’m not really sure why they want me to teach on tactics...but I’m going to do my best!”
Jaime gave him a look that implied he was only doing this because he absolutely had to. "Today we'll talk about the battles against bandit forces. Personally, I was knighted on the battlefield after helping defeat the Kingswood Brotherhood who had tricked the smallfolk into believing they were protecting them against the King's forces."
Because Aerys wasn't quite crazy yet!
"Once the knight I squired for, Ser Arthur Dayne had convinced them of the truth, we were able to flush them out and stop their crimes against the kingdom and King Aerys."
Steve looked upset. “But are you sure they weren’t telling the truth? What if they were really protecting the people? Like Robin Hood! He stole from the rich and gave to the poor. You know, Errol Flynn? In the movies?” Those movies were keen, Jaime. Keen. Even if Steve could only afford them every once in a while.
Jaime shot him another look. "They were committing crimes against the kingdom." THIS WAS KIND OF A BIG DEAL.
“Well,” Steve said thoughtfully, “the kingdom should have been a democracy anyway.” Oh yes, he went there.
"...a what?" Yeah, this would go well.
“Democracy? You know, rule by the people? Like in America!” The greatest country on Earth!
Jaime was having none of this. "Is that in Essos?"
“What’s Essos?” Steve asked, looking confused. “We’re in America right now.” He was pretty sure...everything was really weird. "For the rest of class you're going to watch The Adventures of Robin Hood on this really keen...sort of mobile motion picture thing you guys have here. I hope you guys like it as much as I did!"
