Living on the Outskirts, Friday, Period 2

"I realize," Jono said as he stepped into the classroom, "that last week's lesson was a touch... heavy, for at least a few of you."

He wasn't going to name names, or even single anybody in the room out by looking at them. They knew who they were, and that was enough.

"This week, we're going to lighten things up a little bit. I know I'm not the party person here on the island, but I did my best. For the rest of the class, it's music, refreshments, dancing, and, you know, being social. If you aren't up dancing, I want to at least see you making small talk with somebody else in the room. There is a shadowy corner right over there," he pointed at a corner of the room behind his speaker equipment, where light was somewhat scarce, "and if I see you in there for anything besides re-grouping and taking a breather if you're feeling overwhelmed, you'll have marks docked."

... He wasn't really marking you on partying during class hours, but there was nothing stopping Jono from making that threat all the same.

"Random social situation? Go."

And perhaps why there are so many more snacks today than usual. Is that punch?

Yeah, this was much better.

Atton had pretty much slept his way through last class. (Please. Finding acceptance in the people of this island? That was a child's game. That was the kind of thing that required trust, and Atton knew a damn sight better than that. People could accept you all they wanted, it didn't exactly prohibit them from screwing you over later.) But parties-- yeah, he could do that.

He kicked back and eyed Jono while he talked.

Yeul thought it was terribly nice of him to give the class a breather after last week, even though she'd not been one of the ones who'd been left emotionally wrung-out or particularly distraught.

Besides, a party sounded like fun!

There was Yeul! Who was carrying an extra glass of punch, which she offered to him, because it seemed rather uneven to her that he had to work through the party.

"Thank you, luv." Jono smiled as he took the offered glass of punch, and then raised it a little before having a mouthful and setting it down on the table next to his set list. "And how are you doing today?"

Fun fact: Natalie didn't actually need a shadowy corner to look like she was standing in one. The neutral if slightly disinterested look on her face worked fine enough.

She'd be nice if anyone did decide to talk to her, but she didn't go out of her way to look inviting.

"Is that so?" Jonothon looked clearly amused, taking her light tone to mean that she was doing fine enough either way. "It is a bit of a spontaneous party, of course. I wouldn't be offended either way if people weren't enjoying themselves so early in the day."

“It could be later,” she said agreeably. It could also be earlier, which would have had more people in a corner snoozling. “Will you need help cleaning up after class, Professor?”

"I do have a few CDs to sort through, and there's liable to be some leftover food," Jonothon noted, glancing around the room. "If you have nowhere else to be, I certainly wouldn't say no to some assistance, luv."

He could handle carrying his own things back to the Boards, but tidying up on his own was going to take him a while.
