Student Council [Friday, Lunchtime]

There were a lot of things about Fandom and its school that still didn't make sense to Minerva, but this, at least, she understood. The classroom where the Student Council met was set up with a large table and chairs, and all sorts of conjured sweets were laid out, along with tea and pumpkin juice. (Pumpkin-flavored-everything season originated with witches, thank you very much.)

"Good afternoon," she said, smiling at the students once they'd gotten settled in. "Thank you for taking the time to be here today. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all a little better, and it seems we have some business to address right away. First, we must decide upon a president for the council, from among the seniors who wish to be considered for the position. Then, we need to plan for this Parents Weekend that will be happening next week." Pardon her slight lack of enthusiasm, but dealing with parents was always the worst part of this job. "Who would like to speak first?"

It might be the calmest election happening this year.

"According to the notes that were left for me by my predecessor, there is a 'meet and greet' in the park on Friday, for everyone and their families, some sort of get-together at the community center on Saturday, and a brunch Sunday morning," Minerva said. Perhaps this did sound genuinely delightful after all. "Does anyone have ideas for the event? Or ideas for doing something differently?"

She's left some tea for the rest of you, really.

Lex was already going to be in a precarious position with his dad if he found out the hot principal had left, it wouldn't do for him to also hear he hadn't even tried for president.

"As Student Council President, I feel I would bring a unique perspective tot he role." A bald perspective. "I would also be able to bring all my resources to bear on accomplishing the council's goals. Lex Luthor, the Man of Tomorrow."

"Well... this might not necessarily work in the community center, but maybe Saturday could be some kind of day of games and activities?" Alec suggested. If nothing else, he thought his sister might like it. Surely some other people were bound to get into it too. "There could be races and sports and things."

Minako Aino, sophomore!

"We could have something like board games as well, perhaps?" Yeul suggested, a bit diffidently. "Just so that if a family does not like sports or races, they still have something to do."

"That could work," Alec agreed, nodding, and totally not judging other families for being less athletic than his own. No sir. "And food, obviously."

Petra West, senior

"I have experience in leadership and organization roles," Petra said to the assembled group, "from organizing the island's Pride group--which meets this afternoon, if anyone wants to attend--to serving proudly as Miss Teen Dream Rhode Island. I'm also the most experienced senior on the student council, serving with pride last year, as well. As your president, I promise to do my best to make this year a great one." She paused, then added, "And I look great in official photos."

"Ooh, and what about some kind of arts and crafts?" Petra asked. "I know my mom would be all over that." If her mom got to come, which, thanks to the money thing, was always a giant question mark. But she wasn't going to dwell on that right now.

"This may sound a little crazy, but with the arts and crafts stuff... What if we had a thing where people could make their own gremlin? I mean, out of popsicle sticks or stuffed or something. Not with dark magic or science experiments or anything."

Just to be clear.

Karla, senior

"The families will all go home thinking that gremlins are something cute and soft to snuggle, but I think that would be hilarious," Karla chimed in. "Something like the Build-A-Bear stores in the malls, maybe?"

She thought for a moment and added, "Karaoke. There should definitely be karaoke."

Lex voted for himself, because Lionel would know if he didn't. Somehow.

Alec gave it some thought, but eventually neatly wrote Lex's name down.

Rilla had worked with Petra for a number of years now, so she voted for her.

Sorry, Lex. But Karla had known Petra for a few years now and knew how good she was at organizing things. So she wrote Petra and passed her vote in.

Of course Petra voted for herself. How could she not?

Yeul thought about the speeches and then voted for Petra.
