Heroes and Villains 101, Tuesday, Period 3

When the students filed into the classroom today, they'd probably notice that the room lacked any particularly fancy setup that was especially villainous or heroic. There were two men standing at the front of the room, however, who both seemed to be pretty obviously on separate sides of that spectrum. One definitely seemed to have the mad scientist look down to an art. The other... well, his facial hair kind of looked like tiny kittens. He was probably a good guy.

"Hey, class! Welcome to Heroes and Villains 101! Over the next few weeks, we're going to give you all an opportunity to approach a few different scenarios, to see if you lean toward making heroic decisions," the man talking, the one with the kitten-beard, smiled broadly at that, and gave an encouraging nod, "or cold, soulless, cruel decisions."

There might have been a bias, there. If you squinted.

“Whether you’re willing to sacrifice yourself needlessly for people who could care less about you,” offered the mad scientist, “or to follow through on your own grand initiatives, and use your talents to further your own personal goals, no matter what they may be.” He grinned a little too brightly at that idea.

“I am Professor Souichi Tomoe. I have doctorates in astrophysics and genetic engineering from Tokyo University. I am also the main founder and sponsor of the Infinity Academy project in the Shinagawa Ward of Tokyo, which you may or may not be familiar with. As well as certain... other endeavors I’m less public about.” He started to chuckle, until it built into a full blown maniacal laugh. Oh yes, Prof Tomoe was a completely normal person, and not at all a slightly unhinged mad scientist helping to lead a secret apocalyptic alien invasion of Earth.

"And I'm Kotetsu Kaburagi," sir kitten-beard chimed in, casting a sidelong, slightly baleful look at Tomoe and shaking his head before pressing on, "and I've been taking... ah... an active role in law enforcement in the city of Sternbild for the past ten years!"

Subtle, Kotetsu. They'd never guess you were a hero trying poorly to protect your secret identity that way. Nope. He looked rather pleased with himself for a moment, and then gestured for Professor Tomoe to announce today's in-class activity, which was somewhat dumbed down compared to the stuff they were going to get into in the next classes. Hopefully. If both teachers could agree on a course of plans.

“We thought we’d start you off with something simple,” Prof Tomoe said. “I’ve heard that the kids today are all into Team this and Team that. So, using your art skills, we want you to make either a Team Hero or Team Villain t-shirt. Then, find someone wearing the opposite, and try to convince them that your position is better theirs. Using words is fine. Using violence is not discouraged.”

Kotetsu nodded as Tomoe finished talking, did a brief double-take at that last bit, and then shook his head and gestured to a table stacked high with t-shirts of various colors and sizes, and an assortment of paints, glue, glitter, stickers, fuzzy balls, and other such t-shirt decorating implements. If he was looking pretty smug, well... he was hoping for a good many more Team Hero shirts, okay?

"Play nice, students."

Lex was Team Hero all the way. Down to the purple glitter paint on his shirt.

It seemed like a goofy class. There was absolutely no reason for Victor to look as ... manically focused as he was while he made his Team Hero t-shirt. Which featured black puff-paint letters on an orange background, because that was a manly combination that would in no way remind everyone of Halloween.

Sia was so, so very Team Hero.

But there weren't many Imperial Knights going around calling themselves heroic and she tended to look down on the ones who did, so there was a part of her that was just twitching internally at having to actually be Team Hero.

Couldn't there be a Team Doing The Honorable Thing?

Mercy made a pretty simple shirt, dark blue with "Hero" on it in a sort of silvery gray color.

Mercy's sensitive nose had suggested the cookies might be better skipped, so she'd just made her shirt then waited to see if anyone wanted to try and convince her to be a villain.

Surreal just looked around at her classmates in confusion. "I do not understand the assignment," she hissed in frustration.

Surreal, it's mean to give your teachers a Look.

"The entire concept," she said slowly, as if talking to a small child. "I do not understand the 'Team Hero' or 'Team Villain' references, nor do I understand what that has to do with arts projects."

"Isn't everyone the hero of their own story?" Sorry, boyo, but Surreal had spent far too much time bantering with The Sadist to make this easy.

"Your laws, or our laws? My people have no laws against what you call murder, and I have killed a number of very bad men," Surreal informed him. "No one mourns them, and their victims celebrate."

"This place has laws against that, and things like drinking 'underage,' sex, and, once, against magic," she pointed out. "If I am to be burned for being a witch, I suppose I shall have to be a villain."

How To Make EZ Bake Monsters:

Step 1: Place evil egg in EZ Bake oven along with a random item: a sneaker, a doorknob, an elephant-shaped vacuum cleaner, etc.

Step 2: SCIENCE!

Step 3: Take oven to desired location of attack, and voila! Instant monster!
