This last session, the class was meeting outside the Danger Shop, and Electroclash was looking both grumpy and distracted. She had her reasons. "Right, final time," she drawled to her students. "Which also happens to my final class as well." And that may have contributed to her mood. Maybe. "I've made the fancy computer in there simulate my local pub for you. In this sim, you've just been on telly for – even if that might be unlikely – a heroic feat. There is a chalkboard by the bar where we keep track of who has the most TV appearances. You'll go in one by one, and your job is to convince a certain prick of a man that your oh so heroic televised act was worth getting on the board for."

So no, this class was not going to conform to anyone else's expectations of superheroing even in its last session.

"Your final lesson is this: most likely, the most crucial thing standing between you and fame are other fucking heroes." She paused, then added, grudgingly, "Also I could say most of you haven't been utter pains in the arse to teach." Except you, Bucky. "Now get to it."

Talk amongst yourselves, fret about the sim, whatever.

Devlin is standing by the scoreboard, surrounded by his gang of lackeys. You can't miss him.

Also because immediately as you step in, he's been programmed to turn his obnoxious attention to you and call out, "Oh look, it's the teeniest hero! What've you been doing, popping your pimples at some D-list villains?"

He's a charmer.

Once they ping in!

Just don't say anything about this being her last class.

Spoiler alert: this isn't really going to be Electroclash's last class. Because I refuse to give her up just yet.

Lex Luthor

"Um. I've just been trying to help where I can," Angelica said, having a feeling she wasn't going to do too well in this sim.

Victor Mancha

A hater. Lame.

"Better than wasting time sitting around coming up with ways to insult people who are doing something," Victor said, shrugging off his annoyance. "Popping pimples, that's clever."

Luke Castellan

That was entirely possible. Electroclash hadn't bothered to program Devlin to be any nicer than he actually was, see.

He made a show of cupping a hand to his ear, as if he hadn't even heard her properly. "What was that? Speak up, girl!"

"'That's clever'," Devlin aped, but with an exaggerated girlish voice. Oh yeah. And his lackeys laughed around him, obediently. "I made a massive drug bust and put out a school bus fire today, what've you been doing?"

Angelica tried to muster up more confidence. "I said, I've just been trying to help where I can," she said more clearly. "You don't have to be a jerk about it."

Victor felt his cheeks redden; 'that's clever' had felt pretty lame even as he said it, and the girly voice didn't make it sound any better.

"Fought alligators in a sewer," he said. "And helped keep my team alive. Nothing big."

Okay, so the sewer might have been simulated. Victor was just proud to have an answer at all, as lately the most heroic thing he did most days was magnifying the WiFi signal to the campsite.

Anakin Solo

Oh but he did. About everything. Ever. Even things you wouldn't think anyone would be a jerk about.

He scoffed. "Well, good for you, you little sidekick ––" Yes, that was an insult. "–– but it won't get you on the board."

And Electroclash had forgotten to give them a fictional feat to boast about. Whoops.

Devlin snorted and didn't look impressed. "Not exactly headline news, is it?"

"I don't care about your stupid board," Angelica said, starting to get irritated and losing sight of the point of the assignment. "I just care about helping people."

Besides, she was drinking milk, and one day she was going to be an AVENGER. So there.

"Uh." This wasn't exactly going Victor's way, and he sounded more tentative when he spoke again.

"I don't think I asked for your opinion?" he said, then managed to get the questioning tone out of his voice. "We're all heroes, man. We should work together, not try to put each other down."

Wishful thinking that that was.

"Christ, you'll never get anywhere with that attitude," Devlin snorted. "Have fun 'helping people', it won't make you famous."

It was probably a good thing Electroclash wasn't actually going to fail anyone.

Devlin actually laughed pretty loudly at that idea. And because he laughed, his little flunkies laughed as well.

"Listen to the little hippie!" he exclaimed. "Next he'll be telling us to be nice to the villains! Perhaps we should bring them flowers!"

"Yeah, well, people will catch on to you sooner or later," Angelica snapped back. "That you only help people to be famous or to make money. So maybe you're famous now, but when it comes to writing history books, they'll make fun of you and remember real heroes like me who don't care about glory."

Jerkface.

Devlin gave that a smug grin. "Good thing I have a shitload of money, then." Simulated Devlin cared as little about future history books as the real one did. "Whereas you can't even get on the board."

You know, like she was supposed to in the assignment that may have been unbeateable?

"That's not what I said," Victor managed, through gritted teeth. "At all. You going to let me on the board or not?"

"Dunno," Devlin shrugged. "Do you think you've earned it?"

"I was on the TV, so it counts," Victor argued. "Electroclash didn't say there were rules besides that."

Devlin considered that for a moment. Then he shrugged like he didn't give a shit (which was fitting because he didn't) and waved a hand in the general direction of the guy closest to the board. "Well, put the boy on the board, then."

"Well, considering I was on TV, you're just being a big bully and trying to break the rules and not put me on the stupid board," Angelica said, crossing her arms and glaring.
