Life at Court, Friday, 5/11

"If you think you're going to hear about the modern criminal justice system, you're in the wrong classroom."

So Tyrion Lannister began his third session as a classroom teacher, striding in a minute or two late and hoisting himself onto the teacher's desk in the classroom for greater amplification. Once he was there:

"Hello," he said. "Welcome to class. I hope it might someday help keep some of you alive. The game of thrones, as it's called, is a dangerous game. I'm no expert on other systems of government, but from what I've read over the last several months I see little reason to believe politicians are much kinder than monarchs. I exaggerate only slightly -- there seems to be less chopping off of heads in this world then there is at home, and I suppose allowances should be made for that."

"I am teaching this class as Lord Tyrion of House Lannister. My father was the king's chief advisor until the king went mad and a war came." If Daenerys was still on the island, Tyrion would have been less blunt about this, but she'd gone home and he saw no reason to soft-peddle it for anyone else; as it was, he was talking around several points for the sake of expediency. "The king changed then, but my father's still a rather powerful man. The fact we're all still alive and my sweet sister is queen is a tribute to how well he played the game."

"I'm not much like my father." This was not entirely true. "But no one's asked for my head on a platter yet, so I must be doing something right."

"My title is mostly for my world. Here, call me Tyrion or Professor Lannister, whichever comes more easily to your tongue. I am generally in my office on Thursdays. If you find me overly forbidding, my assistants are the Lady Blysse Norwood and her companion Blind Seer, as well as Surreal SaDiablo. The large wolf may be the least intimidating among them."

He paused there, ran a hand back over his hair. "Like everyone else, I'm forcing you to introduce yourselves this week. Name, title if you have one and want to share it, and the form of government you're most familiar with. I'd like to know where we're starting from. Oh, and if you've a topic you'd hoped to address over the next two months, please let me know."

"As he say," Firekeeper said, with a nod at Tyrion, "my name is Lady Blysse Norwood, of House Kestrel. But just Blysse is fine." She tilted her head, considering. "The human ruling system I know best is probably kind with kings, and queens," she shared. "Blind Seer and I only comed to live with humans a few years ago, so both of us know well how confusing it can be to learn these things for a first time," she offered with a genuine smile. "And yes, for those who do not know: Blind Seer know what you say. His throat cannot make human noises, so he need me to translate his words, but there is nothing wrong with his hearing." Just to get the assumption that he was a pet clear out of the way.

"Surreal, bastard-born to a whore, no rank beyond being a Green-jeweled witch," she said cheerfully, tapping her Jewel which, for once, was out above her clothes for all to see. "A polite male would refer to me as 'Lady' because I am Blood, but I'd laugh myself sick."

"But the Blood have courts, and they are complicated and dangerous, especially when mixing different birth-castes, Jewel colors, and males who can't keep it in their pants." Tactful, Surreal was not. "We have no laws against what you landens call 'murder,' not really, and if you piss off a Queen or a member of her First Circle, or break Protocol - the rules of Court - you're probably going to be dead."

"I know Protocol, it's required for all Blood, although my tutelage started late. I'm also smart enough to keep my ass as far away from any formal courts as possible." Beat. "I do not deal well with entitled Blood males."

Firekeeper and Blind Seer were there, and trying to look-

well, it was sort of impossible to not look intimidating, but both were doing their best to at least look approachable.

Surreal was also there, but she was at least trying not to be as taciturn & surly as usual?

Jeremy was now a little afraid of Surreal. Moreso than he was of the wolf, yes. But that was probably only wise.

"Jeremy Darling," he introduced himself, once it was his turn. "I, uh, I don't have a title but my family owns like, half of New York so that counts for something, right?" The Darlings thought it did. "And the form of government I'm familiar with is... this one."

Though 'familiar' might have been too strong a word for it.

Fawn's poor lower lip. It had been masticated so much in these last few days that it was a shock it hadn't started bleeding raw by the time she took to her introduction.

"Fawn Singleton Farrell," she said, executing a slightly clumsy curtsey because she just felt like this class called for that sort of thing. "I don't have any titles. I'm from this world...kind of...so I'm most familiar with a representative democracy."

And she was just going to keep it at that if she could.

"Lex Luthor, no title." Regardless of Lionel's dynastic ambitions. "I'm most familiar with the United States system of government, it's a constitutional republic."

So he'd maybe considered political ambitions on occasion. Who hadn't?

So far, Fawn's classes were doing nothing to prove her wrong that she'd been shipped off to Freak School, but she tried to wrestle that toward the back of her mind and focus on what the little man was saying. , because she was sincerely interested, just distracted by her own head. It wound up leaving her giving off the impression that she either found it difficult to blink or was somewhere else entirely underneath all that blonde hair.

"Petra West, Miss Teen Dream Rhode Island--okay, that's not a real political title," Petra admitted. "I do have a bunch of tiaras, though. I'm most familiar with a representative democracy." She thought about that for a second, and then had to correct herself. "Although, actually, is there a word for when a company totally runs everything? Because really kind of that."

Darvy gave a little wave. "I'm Darcy Lewis, no formal titles but pissed off teachers and goverent mooks call me Miss Lewis when annoyed and crazy hot Norse alien gods add Lady to everyone. And then eat all the pop-tarts." Welcome to Darcy's brain. Tylenol could be found by the door. "And I'm familiar with most government types because politics are kind of an intersest? But I live in a theoretical democracy but it's more of a constitutional republic."
