Photography- Tuesday- 3rd period- Class #1

Unlike last semester, the students were in a normal classroom today. Who knew if that would change or not. Jaye certainly didn't.

"Hey there," she said, like she didn't really want to be talking to them, but if she had to... because they were paying her. "I'm Jaye. Don't call me Professor anything, that's weird. Call me ma'am and I fail you. Stick to Jaye. Anyway, this is Photography, so I hope you all brought cameras. I don't care if they're real cameras, phones, iPads, whatever. If not, I have disposable cameras, because they're a dying breed and you can get them really cheap but that doesn't mean you won't owe me money if you take one."

This was your teacher, boys and girls.

"This... semester, session, whatever we're calling it, we're going to take pictures, because this class is actually what the title says. But first I want you to say who you are and why you're here-" Because Jaye thought people who didn't want to be here were funny. "-and then I'm going to give you an assignment. Someone go, I don't care who."

Who are you and why are you here?

"Take pictures of your classmates doing stupid things," Jaye told them. "They can make faces or you can trip them, whatever. Just get the shot. It's like you're being social or whatever."

She has a receipt pad for disposable cameras on her desk. No, seriously, you will have to pay for those suckers if you need one.

I maybe like Jaye classes.

Sam Puckett

Sam was going to be doing this all week. She knew she was going to be doing this all week, but that didn't make her roll her eyes any less.

"I'm Sam. I'm taking this class 'cause I'm hoping I can take pictures of gross things for credit."

What? She couldn't think of a good excuse at the last minute, so she went with the truth.

Simon Bellamy

Britta Perry

"I'm Simon," Simon said, once again looking awkawrd and uncomfortable with introductions. A year here hadn't changed that. "And I... have an interest in photography."

Well, video was more his thing but still. And yes, he was glad he had a phone with a decent enough camera.

Oh, Britta was ready for this. She had somehow managed to get herself a really great camera with all sorts of features that she didn't even understand...and would be likely taking the hit in her budget for years afterwards. But sometimes, such sacrifices had to be made for art. The camera was in front of her as she eagerly thought of all the cool things she was going to photograph and about how she might even be able to use the little trick she learned on the computer to make them old West colors, too.

"My name is Britta Perry," Britta introduced herself, "and I'm taking this class because not only is photography a very classic and profound art form, but it is through photography that we can capture not only the essence of life, but also the injustices happening all over the world. Photography is a mirror to the world, and sometimes it's pretty, but more often than not, it's gritty and raw and shocking and inspires people to take a stand against the truths that cannot escape the lens no matter how hard some may try to cover it up with the blindness of a lenscap."

Terry McGinnis

Terry had a cheap camera from the future. So it was really, really, really nice by today's standards. Yeah, he was a damn cheater.

Terry jumped at the chance to talk after that last girl. She was just the worst, so whateever he said might sound better in comparison.

"Hi. I'm Terry, and I'm here because the class sounded kind of easy and I have a nice camera." The honest approach.

"I'd rather embarrassing, but if there's a way that gross and embarrassing can meet somehow, I think you'll do very well in this class."

What, like Jaye wanted people taking artsy pictures?

"Good. You're going to be photographing things," she said simply. This class was shaping up easy.

Okay, Jaye took back her narrative to Simon.

"I can't wait to see your stuff," Jaye went with, because it'd be interesting to see how this girl made a gremlin bite look like capturing the essence of life.

"Eh, works for me," Jaye told him.

Rilla Blythe

Rilla was giving Terry's camera covetous looks. Her Brownie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brownie2_overview3.jpg) was, well, modern for her time period, but not that helpful otherwise.

"I'm Rilla Blythe," she said shyly. "And I thought I could take pictures to cheer my brother and my friends up--they're from 1915 and don't know about a lot of the things that exist here."

"I think this will definitely help with that," Jaye told her. Of course, hopefully her brother and friends wouldn't mind pictures of all the weird stuff, but that had to be what she was talking about, right? Weird stuff not existing there?

Tinny Doyle

"I'm Tinny Doyle," Tinny said when it was her turn to introduce herself. "I'm taking this class because it won't be a boring way to pass the time?"

It was honest, at least.

Anna Korlov

Anna didn't have a camera yet. Her phone had come with a camera, but she didn't really know how to work it. So she was sort of looking around nervously.

"I'm Anna," Anna said, "and I'm taking this class because I used to really like taking pictures and I'd like to get back to that."

Anna was just going to sit here and fumble with her phone. She knew it had a camera thing. She just didn't know how to use it.

Oh, look, she'd just accidentally taken a picture of her desk. Okay, that seemed like a step in the right direction...

Bucky Katt

Bucky was filming the whole thing with ~~Rob's~~ his camcorder. "Okay, that was good, but do you think you could go back and try it again, with a little more 'oomph'? I'm just not feeling your motivation, over here."

Bucky turned his camera around so that its lens was on him. "I'm Bucky Katt," he said dramatically, "and I make movies. Good movies, not like the crap that gets crapped out into theaters these days. Movies like this one, that you're watching right now, about a lovable cat surviving against all odds in a cruel and heartless world. My genius is too much for one cat to bear alone; it must be shared with the world."

Jaye, you just told Bucky he was allowed -- no, encouraged -- to trip his classmates. I hope you realize what you've done. NOTHING can get underfoot as much as a scurrying cat.

Bucky completely forgot about taking pictures, and instead concentrated on tripping as many people as possible.

"I'll take it," Jaye said. And had to ask. She just had to. "...Tinny?"

"Congratulations, you're gonna!" Though it'd probably not be the sort of pictures Anna was aiming for, but details.

...The talking cat was so getting failed on the basis that he was a talking animal and no no no.

"Uh, this class has a strict no recording policy unless otherwise specified, thanks," she said.

"Are you saying that there's NO PHOTOGRAPHY allowed in the photography class?!" Bucky asked, incredulous.

"...Okay, then. Nap time."

"Yeah," Tinny replied. "Ask my family. They've been calling me that my whole life."
