apathy, one last time.

This ... was going to be the last meeting of Apathy club that George ever went to. And so, instead of doing something special, she was going to show up late, and hover in the doorway, and try not to admit that she was upset. That she felt like she was losing something precious to herself.

This was the way Apathy Club ended; not with a bang, but a whimper.

It didn't suck. That was what she would say, if asked about it. High praise, to any who spoke the language.

Coffee was totally there for the stealing. Because if there was one thing that an apathy club needed, it was caffeine.

"Hey, is this the last time?" Jeremy wondered as he wandered over. He was oblivious to melancholy when it wans't right in his face. It was his way. "Finals week is the last week of clubs too, right?"

"I think so," George said, frowning. She didn't want it to be. Couldn't it be January again? "We ... usually close up shop for summer. And I might be ... going home then."

Whenever Rube showed up to tell her that her carriage had turned into a pumpkin, and she had to be a Reaper full-time again.

"Oh." Jeremy hadn't thought about that. Of course he hadn't. He never did. "I... hadn't realized."

George fidgeted, not able to fully meet his eyes.

"I ... I'd stay if I could," she said. "It's not up to me. I mean, when Rube ... says it's time to go, that's ... that's when it's time to go."

Rube ruined everything.

"Oh." You said that already, Jeremy. It was about as useful then as it is now. "Oh, well... That just means we still have some time, right?"

He was an optimist, dammit. Plus this thing, whatever it was, had already lasted way longer than any previous thing he'd had.

This was the first time anything had worked out for her. And she was dead. That was really saying something, right there.

"We should ... do something," George said. "Nice. Before I have to leave. And then just ... I dunno."

She bit her lip. "Is this where I say I'll write, or ..."

"You can text?" Jeremy offered with a shrug and a wane little smile. "I mean, uh... People like you are allowed to do that, right?"

"I'm going to, whether I'm allowed or not," George said, offering him a flash of a smile. "You should meet Daisy. And Mason. Maybe ... maybe not Rube."

Rube was a scary fucker. And Rube wouldn't approve of the things she'd been getting up to, here.

"You can visit," she added. "If you're bored and ... you want to come see Seattle."

"I would love to visit Seattle," Jeremy said, smile broadening. It was only kind of a lie. He was indifferent to Seattle, but he wouldn't be against visiting her.

He reached out to brush his fingers against her cheek. "Everything's gonna be fine, George."

It probably wasn't. It usually wasn't. But she really liked that he thought so.

That was what Fandom was supposed to be teaching her, right?

"So, I tell you about stupid guys fixing their own lawn mowers, and you tell me about what's invading this week?" she asked.

That wasn't the line that a normal girl would pull in for a kiss on, but since when had 'normal' had anything to do with George?

"Something like that," Jeremy murmured, before his lips met hers, after which he had very little need to say anything for the next moment. He just put his hands lightly on her hips and pulled her a little closer.

Things were fine. He believed they would stay that way. It was just who he was.
