Tactics of War [Monday Evening]

Before I begin, I would like to say that I'm impressed with the ingenuity of those who were involved in the attack on Friday. I know little of the details, but if anyone would like to give me a full account, I would be happy to award you with extra credit for this course.

Also, Cameron Mitchell? Please see me after class, thank you.

Now, I had a long and boring lecture planned for you today (in which, of course, I expected you to plot my doom, as it would be an excellent sign of success for you as my students learning the tactics of war as one of my long term goals is to ultimately destroy this planet -- *laughter* Oh, I'm just kidding) but last night I saw this film that I vaguely remember seeing from the early 90's and I wish for you to see it and to write down three shockingly irritating tactics of either the locust-like aliens or the ridiculously stupid Americans.

Being both a commander of an invading force and ex-American military, I have GREAT irritation at this film and feel that it is a wonderful learning tool in how NOT to proceed on either (a) invasion or (b) countering such a genocidal attack.

She looks over at Aeryn and smiles.

And Miss Sun, I particularly look forward to your rather inspired point of view.

Now, please, sit quietly and watch.

Aeryn isn't exactly sure what, if anything to say about it, but wouldn't avoid any questions if asked. She hasn't made a point of covering the healing bruises on her neck, either.

Sam considered asking Janet if she'd signed up for auditions. Surely such a dramatic soul belonged on the stage.

Edward signs in.

"It's kinda fun when they turn to dust," Cameron says.

Edward looks slightly glazed. "I don't get a lot of this." Fighter jets are slightly outside of his experience. So are alien invasions, for that matter. Nevermind computers.

Janet figured Sam was being ridiculous. Couldn't they just ignore each other in peace? But no, Sam was probably thinking up more things to argue about.

1. I, uh, don't get a lot of this. But who in the hell sends the leader of the forces into the middle of a battle like that? I mean, I guess if they're desperate or something, but you want your brains somewhere safer.

2. Um. I don't get a lot of the technology. I kind of understand computers since I've been around here for a while, but not really. I don't understand how "Earth" computers are compatible with the alien computers.

3. Okay, and the guys who just flew up into the mothership? Why aren't they dead? I've been in a lot of tight scrapes myself, but that just doesn't make sense.

Pip signs in and sits in for the movie.

Pip tilts his head to the side slightly. "Does the first lady seem familiar to anyone? Same with the head scientist and the badass millitary guy."

Sam pondered launching spitballs at Janet's head, but decided it wasn't worth the bother.

Pip leaned over to whisper to Alanna. "Hey. I'd just like to apologize for my behavior on Saturday. I was a total ass and I had no right doing what I did."

Oddly enough, Janet had just pondered turning around and whispering to Sam to stop glaring at her, but it wasn't worth the bother either. Also, she wasn't sure if Eighth would give them detention just on principle.

1.Humans-Counting on the idea that all the nations of the world would somehow magically set aside all the differences of millions of years of fighting of territory and religion and band together to join forces.

2.Aliens-Not having any sort of protection against computer viruses. Seriously, if your defenses are so dependant on your computers, protect the damn things.

3.Aliens-Not having any of their fighters defending their weak point at all. I mean, I know that their weak point is a giant laser o' death, but a few guns to keep fighters from shooting it probably would've been a good idea.

Bonus fourth point.

4.Humans-Don't keep important information from your leaders. They're, ya know, your leaders.

Alanna tried to remember what happened on Saturday. Except drinking. "Um, remind me again?" She tried to tuck in a strand of hair behind her ear with her right hand, forgetting why that wasn't a good idea.

Alanna flailied.

Pip grimaced. "The thing, where I came in. Sang the song about you guys being idiots. I didn't actually intend to sing the song, but I had no right to barge in there and tell you guys were all idiots in the first place. I'm sorry."

"The badass military guy might be on Lightening Bug." Parker eyes Pip warily, knowing that he's the kid that sang at Aeryn and Angel on Saturday. "As the merc."

"Right!" Alanna tucked the cast back underneath her sweater, nervously tugging it down. "Thanks for apologizing, um, yeah you're right, you had no right."

Edward started a list of things he didn't understand.

1. EVERYTHING.

Okay, maybe that's not quite true. He could understand the gist of the movie. The technology? Flying so far over his head height doesn't matter.

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-02-07 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks," Pip said. He grimaced at Parker's look. "Were you one of the people I... serenaded with my little outburst?"

Re: Talk during the movie

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-02-07 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Pip nodded. "No, I didn't. Still need help with the movie?"

[identity profile] carter-i-am.livejournal.com 2006-02-07 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Sam began to develop a headache from all the glaring. Being mad at Janet was hard work.

Re: Talk during the movie

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-02-07 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Pip looked around to make sure no one was looking as he nervously slid a note to Aeryn.

I know this doesn't in any way make up for my behavior and you'd be comletely within your rights to not forgive me again, ya know, ever, but I'm very sorry for what I did. I had no right to barge in there and do what I did and it was high among the more jackass-type things things that I could do.

"Noooo." Parker studied him very carefully; younger than her, one eye gone, in shape, street rat type. "I got the re-cap later. As first impressions go? That one went over like a slab of concrete."
