Multidisciplinary Self Defense

Duncan has staves and swords. He's waiting to see who wants to play with which.

OOC note: I have two tests tomorrow and Friday, and they're hard. I'm not terribly available or energetic till Friday, but I think the classes this week could be a lot of fun. If no one objects, I would like to leave the threads open for Monday and today through Saturday. I know that slow play is evil, but the alternative is scanting my attention.

ETA: The swords, sorry to say, are practice swords and wooden. The ones he teaches specific students with might be something else, but not the general class.

Ivanova is here.

"Um, sir?" Ivanova had learned her lesson last class. No self-defense for her until her dratted knee and shoulder healed. "I, um, injured myself over the weekend and I'm still not a hundred percent. Actually, I wouldn't put myself over thirty-five percent at the moment. Is it alright if I just . . . observe?"

Parker shows up, and goes through her drills, and is clearly making some progress. She's also damn tense.

Angel's here.

Angel takes a sword. He knows it's cheating to grab the same partner again, but this week he doesn't care. He keeps his eye out for Cam.

Kara signs in.

Susan is here.

She'd played with a sword last lesson, so it's a stave this lesson. Just for balance. Susan, true to form, is quite handy with anything she can swing at somebody's head, and swings it idly as she looks around for a partner.

Cameron's here.

If it's cheating, Cameron doesn't seem to care either. He picks up his sword and moves over to Angel again. "Yo."

Angel got into position so Cam could practice trying to kill him again. "Hey. How's it going?"

"Alright. I found a few interesting books in the library," Cameron replied and showed Angel one of the moves he had picked up. It was still clumsy as he hadn't actually tried it before.

"Keep your knees bent," Angel suggested. "Yeah? What kind of book?"

"Just on sword fighting techniques," Cameron kept his knees bent. "Zero figures there would be more books in Special Collections. I don't think I can read that fast, though."

"Better to practice," Angel said. "Reading and theory can come later. Now you want muscle memory."

"Yes, but it's a good read when I'm taking a break." Cameron said and maybe he'd been entirely too focussed on Friday.

"Pick up anything interesting?" Angel asked.

"Some basics and some cool moves I'd like to try. Especially the ones combining kicks" Cameron gave it a go but mostly lost his balance. He was only just starting to master the kicks with normal boxing. "I think it mostly helps me from getting nervous."

"I like kicks," Angel said. "The one weapon you're always going to have on you is you. The more you know how to hurt people using just yourself is good."

"Aeryn's been teaching me for a while now," Cameron replied. "Pip showed me how to learn how to fall. So, I'm getting there. I might still get beaten by most girls in school here, but I'm learning."

"No shame, considering the girls at this school," Angel said. He showed Cameron another move. "What'd you think of Pip?"

"He's alright," Cameron tried the move on Angel. "He seems to be really into the martial arts thing, which considering how he grew up is probably only natural. I suggested he'd ask Alanna to help out with her Self-Defense club."

"Might be good for him," Angel agreed. "I know he's into teaching people."

"Yeah, he's decent at it too." Cameron nodded.

"Got anything planned for tomorrow?" Angel asked.

Jack signs in, and admires the pretty shiny sharp.

Jack picks up a sword. He'd like a chance to try attacking someone.

"No. Just keeping my head down and not doing anything stupid," Cameron shrugged.

"It's a good idea," Angel said. "Take it easy. Do something fun."

"Absolutely. And points for not being dumb enough to hurt yourself worse. If you want to go over anything we do now when you're healed up, let me know, and I'll make time to do that outside of regular class."

He holds up a hand for a pause. "You're doing *very* well. You're also very tense. There something going on?" He gives her the look of concern.

Ivanova nodded. "Thank you, sir. I will." She limped over to the nearest bench and eased herself down to watch the rest of the class.

Duncan puts a hand on his shoulder and nudges him into the proper form. "More like this."

(OOC note: sword yes, sharp no. No dead students. Dead students are bad for business. ;) )
