As lunch is early, giving me time to play, yay! Aeryn wanders down to the cafeteria for the first time since the beginning of the school, and she's just as wary of the food as she was then. Why was this a good idea again?

"You're up early," John says, taking a seat across from her. "Sleep all right?"

"I slept great," she completely lies. "You?"

"Not bad," he lies through his teeth. "Nice and refreshed for the morning. Ready for class. Yeah, that's right. Too bad I only have one class and lots of energy."

Aeryn nods. "Same here. I'll probably be spending some time in the gym," she says, and figures it might have to be all day. "Because of all the energy."

"Well, don't hurt yourself," John says, drinking all of his milk quickly. "I'm gonna go take a quick shower when we're done with lunch. Gym's not for me, you know."

"Right," Aeryn says quickly, dismissing any and all past shower experience thoughts from her mind. Or naked thoughts. There will be none of that. She clears her throat, hoping he'll change the subject because her thought processes are a bit distracted.

"Yeah, I figure the shower would help me out a little," John says, pointing towards his stomach. "I'm a little sore from the slip n' slide, from the constant sliding, you know. Hot shower helps sore muscles, right?"

She hates him a little right now. Fine. "It should," she says. "That's why I tend to shower after the gym. Especially after I've been down there for a while, getting sweaty."

That's enough for John to jolt in his seat and hate her a little.

"Sweaty?"

"If it's a good workout, sure," she says. "But it's the good kind of sweaty."

John swallows heavily. "Oh, well that's good that you're getting a good workout." Averting his eyes and his thoughts, John taps his thumb on his lips.

Aeryn is trying not to concentrate on his mouth, but he's doing that thing again. She looks down at the table, determined not to look up. "And it's good that you'll... get clean."

"Yeah, I'm excited about...getting clean." What the hell? "Oh, I, um, washed some of your clothes a few days ago. They're in one of my drawers if you wanna come get them...or keep them there or whatever."

"Oh. Um. I could come by later and get them," she says. "Since I won't be staying over or anything." ...Probably. No, definitely. Definitely.

"You can still stay over," John mumbles, "and we could just do something else. Our relationship isn't all about...it. Right?"

"Right," she nods. "It is just the physical side of things. And it isn't like we just do it because it..." This could take a very uncomfortable route, so Aeryn goes on, "We'll just concentrate on the non-physical side of things."

"But we can be a little phyiscal," John suggests. "Kissing? Cuddling? Hugging? They all okay with you?"

"Fine," she nods. "None of that has to lead to anything."

"Exactly." John nods...and sticks out his hand. "Shall we shake on it?"

She stares at his hand for a moment, because how the frell did they get to this point, but gives him her hand to shake.

And now they're touching and, after one night, he's ready to end this stupid thing but...the gossip.

"Right, sealed on a handshake." John squirms in his seat because wow. "I think we're doing okay so far."

"We're doing good," she says, even though neither of them have let go yet. "This is good."

"It is," he says and turns his hands so that he can twine their fingers together. Unconscious move that he can't help.

"Yes, it is," she adds absently, and touching is good. They can do touching. And if her thumb is starting to make short stokes against his hand, that's completely unconscious, too. It's automatic.
