Welcome back to school, gang. For those who don't know me, I am CJ Cregg. Before I came here, I was the Press Secretary for the White House...and if you aren't from here and you want to know what that is, come to my office tomorrow.

Ok, next. I got in a car wreck before Christmas. If I don't know you and I should, remind me. If I don't know you and you think you'd be better off if you stayed forgotten and got a chance at a fresh start, by all means...go for it.

On my desk here...this is Fred and Ginger. Under no circumstances will anyone break the bowl and try to stab me this term. Enough on that.

Ok, first day, lets play get to know the corps/ Stand up, introduce yourself. Tell me something interesting about you and why in the world you signed up for me.

She sit's patiently at her desk, waiting for the first person to grill.

Gang, this is Advanced...that means buckle up and hold on tight. This will probably be the only easy day in this class. Didn't you get enough of me last term? Why'd you sign up, and what do you want to learn?

Maia stood up, gave C.J. a nervous smile and then started to talk.

"Hi I'm Maia Rutledge. I'm from Seattle, Washington and I took this class because, well C.J.-Pro. Cregg is the teacher and I heard it was a good class." Maia's face blushed a little at slipping up calling C.J. c.j. instead of Prof. Cregg.

Togusa waited for the girl to sit down, then stood, clearing his throat a little.

"My name is Togusa, and I come from Japan. I'm taking this class because I wanted to learn to express myself in a better way." He shuffled his feet a little, looked at the other students and sat down again.

Lindsey stood up.

"I'm Lindsey, in case anyone's blocked me out of their memory. I signed up for this because I liked the 2 comm classes last term and I wanted to keep going. Mostly I just want to learn to be better at the whole communicating thing. Reading people and being able to convince them of what I want them convinced of."

"So you're in it for the manipulation, Lindsey? You're the one from Oklahoma, right?" She looks down, double checking her tablet full of facts.

"CJ's fine, Maia. Welcome to class."

"Thank you, Togusa. I hope you enjoy what I have planned for you."

"Manipulation's not the word I'd use. I'd like to be more persuasive, definitely. And yeah, I'm the one from Oklahoma who wants to be a lawyer."

Jack stood up.

"Name's Jack O'Neill and I took this class because I took 201 last term and got an A. I don't think that's ever happened before, had to take my chances one mroe time."

"Jack. Welcome back...you, you I remember." She smiles at him, entirely unreassuring.

"That's right. Persuasion and manipulation are different...but you'll use both as a lawyer. We'll get you there, hot shot."

*smiling, hands CJ a cup of coffee*

I think you all know that I'm Elizabeth. I'm here because I'm looking at perhaps going into politics. Even if I don't, I feel that understanding the theories behind communication is important, and can help reduce potential miscommunication, which, in this day and age what with the increasing instant communication around the world, is even more important.

Oh, and I was TA last semester, and I've not been told any different about it for this semester.

She takes the coffee with a smile and nods while Elizabeth talks.

"All really good ideas. We're going to have some interesting discussions in this class. Different media, different messages...it'll be right up your alley. And I understand you are a hotly contested ticket, but if you still want it, the job's yours, E. I'd love to keep you on."

Elizabeth looks slightly amused. "I'm hotly contested? Really?" she laughs. "I'm perfectly happy staying on. No offense, CJ, but it's a pretty easy gig."

Boone stood up, looking slightly nervous. "Uh, hi. I'm Boone Carlyle. I'm from California," he paused for a second, before going on, "And I'm taking this class ~~because, omg, CJ!~~ to try to improve my speaking skills."

"Easy gig, story of my life. Yeah, your name's been tossed around the lounge a bit. I told everyone if they tried to woo you from me, I'd stuff them and mount them and hang them on my wall."

Aw crap.

"That's probably not a good thing, is it?"

Maia smiled happily and sat back down.

Elizabeth grins. "Uh, thanks for the vote of confidence. I think."

"Hi, I'm John Sheppard, everyone calls me 'Shep' because there's a preponderance of Johns around here and it cuts down on the confusion." It occurs to him that he should have recorded that for replay at each class. "And I'm here because you told me to be and because you forgave me for the bear last term."

Allie stood up and gave a shy smile.

"I'm Allison Cameron and I signed up for advanced speech class because I want to go to medical school and I need to learn how to communicate effectively."

"Now Jack...pussycat, remember? Or was that the other Jack?" She shrugs, clearly not caring. "Anyhow, what fun would I have if you weren't here?"

"Where in California, Boone? Bay area? Because if not...I have nothing to say to you." she says dryly.

"The kind that doesn't result in my pain?"

Blinking at him several times, she has an overwhelming urge to call him 'baby' for no clear reason.

"Bear?"

"You're welcome, E. You let me know if there's any wooing going on. My walls are horribly empty." She smirks and huffs out a laugh.

She looks at Allie skeptically. "Have you ever actually tried to talk to a doctor? You'll go far if you can actually communicate. Clatity!" She turns her back and falls into lecture mode for ten minutes on clarity and the lack of plain English in the medical field.

"When did I ever cause you pain? You need to lighten up, Jack. In fact...since you know me from before, I'm thinking I need a new TA for this class. You game?"

"TA?" Jack thought about it for a moment. "Ah what the hell, sure. I'm game."

"Close enough to the bay area," he replies. "Uh, well, on the peninsula, at least. I'm from Palo Alto. In Santa Clara."

Smiling almost maliciously, she writes his name down. "Marvelous. Welcome to the team, O'Neill."

At CJ's smile jack second-guesses himself and wonders what it was exactly he just signed up for.

"Yes ~~Darlin'~~ Ms. Cregg, we had a little issue with my computer, an animated bear and me yelling "WhatthefuckGrizzlyBear?" in the middle of class. But you forgave me for it. Didn't even give me detention." It was very important that she remembered that she forgave him for it.

"Ugh. No Ms. No Ma'am. Just CJ, Shep~~baby~~. I do remember that. are we going to have that little problem again?"

Shep raises an eyebrow. That was new. Last term, all ~~darling~~ kidding aside, she'd been Professor Cregg the whole term. Hm... maybe that accident loosened her up a little. "No problem, ~~darlin'~~ Ms... uh... CJ." I felt a little odd to be calling a teacher by her first name. But if that was the oddest thing he had to deal with today he'd be ahead in the game.

"I can live with that. Santa Clara's a nice community. So, you want to improve your speaking skills...you're going to learn so much more than that, and you'll love it. Swear."

"Well, good then. Ok, first things first. Why Shep and not...Johnny, or Jack, or one of the other normal variants of John?"

"Well off the top of my head I can give you at least three good reasons: Harkness, O'Neill, Crichton and Connor. Wait... that may be four reasons. Anyway, this cuts the confusion, considering some of them and I orbit in the same circles."

"Fair enough. Shep it is." She smiles at him, and goes to make a note on her tablet.

Feeling cheeky (and figuring C.J. needed to be reminded what she'd done to herself by inviting Shep into her class again) Shep added, "It makes for more efficient communication."

"It's nice enough."

At the part about loving the class, he offered her a smile, "I believe you."

"Uh, Professor Cregg? Can I sit down? Or is there something else?"

"Nothing else, kid. Sit down." She winks at him and moves on.

"That it does, Shep~~baby~~. It always helps to know for certain who you're talking to."

"I'm Lily Evans," she said looking around the small group. "I know I was in class with all of you last semester, but I didn't really get to know any of you as well as I should have. I'm here because I developed a great deal of respect for Professor Cregg over the course of last term, and I hope to continue developing as an effective communicator."
