301--Practice

Papers are due. Turn 'em in.

This is our last unit. You've all learned so much over the term, I'm very proud of you. Hang in there...we only have practice, your final project, and your final...then it's home for the holidays! Or, you know, stay here.

Ok, practice. Every day you talk to people. You listen to teachers. You, you select few, have the tools to unpack the message. You should, by now, understand what role trust plays, how influence is used, the perils of obedience to authority, and the sender/message/receiver paradigm...inside and out. You should be hyper-conscious right now, having just finished it, on how body language can bolster or skew a message entirely for a receiver.

Given all you know, your task today is to form into pairs. I'd like you to challenge the trust you hold for one another. You may or may not choose to use any of the things you learned to convey a message. Each of you do this. The message you choose to send is up to you.

Furthermore, in prep for tomorrow, be conscious of one particular interaction that happens today, and be prepared to discuss it tomorrow following the above criteria.

Ok, gang. Go.

Elizabeth handed in her paper, which was full of technical terms and correct, although one might have got the sense that she hadn't really watched the film any time recently and was going on memory.

She nodded along through the instructions, and looked around for someone to pair up with.

Jack hands in his paper, and looks around for someone to pair up with -- possibly someone he hasn't had much interaction with yet this semester.

*Elizabeth hesitates, but answers honestly*

Not really.

Rory was upset, so I was talking things through and trying to comfort her.

"Wanna partner up? "

Jack hands in his paper. The handwriting's sloppy, there are a few misspellings, and there are various abbrevation and shorthand "codes" that make certain spots harder to decifer than others but all and all it's a good paper.

Jack misses the point here and there and rambles a little on a completely unrelated tangent somewhere crossing pages two and three but for the most part he gets the point.

"Sure. Works for me. Okay, so... challenging trust."

Anya hands in her paper. She typed it, so she didn't have to worry about the handwritting. Although she understands what CJ is trying to teach, she still doesn't quite understand the whole communication thing.

It's a good paper- if everything said were taken literally.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, challenging trust. So... any clue how we go about that?"

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not a clue. I mean, I think you were sick the day I went batshit insane and tried to kill the teacher, so that's out for challenging trust."

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
"You went batty and tried to kill CJ?"

"..."

"...Any response I give to this will probably get me killed for some reason or another."

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"It had to do with Crazy Squid Lady and psych class. I'm not crazy now. Ask CJ. What? You don't trust me enough to give me an honest answer?"

Piper hands in her paper. It isn't badly written, but it's clear she didn't pay as much attention to the movie as she should have.

She then looks for someone to pair up with.

Veronica doesn't have a paper to turn in and she needs to talk to the professor after class.

But she pairs up with Piper.

Allie turns in her paper and then sits down next to an unfamiliar girl, getting an early start on the Ethics assignment Lisa told her about.

"Hi, I'm Allie. Want to work together?"

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Anya turns around to face the voice from behind her.

"Sure," she says smiling. "I'm Anya!"

Piper glances at her friend and smiles. "Hey, Veronica."

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Say no more, Crazy Squid Lady is all I needed to hear. It's not you I'm worried about." Jack's eyes dart quickly to CJ. "I'm afraid that whatever I say might sound... unsympathetic even though it very much would not be."

[Chiana hands in her paper, which is pretty decently written, and starts looking around for somebody to pair up with.]

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Jack Harkness shrugs. "Say it. I can deal. I promise I won't go running to Mommy."

Lily turns in her paper and pairs up with Logan.

[identity profile] other-logan.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Logan turns in his paper and pairs up with Lily, since Allie had already partnered with someone else.

"Well I was just going to say I'd been there before and that I possibly wouldn't mind an excuse to rampage through this place slightly one time or another. Maybe."

[identity profile] wannabelawyer.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Lindsey turns in his paper, which is ok but not fantastic, and looks around for a partner.

Spotting the grey girl and her apparent lack of partner, he walked over to Chiana.

"Need a partner?"
"

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey," she replies with a smile. "I need to talk to you about something kinda important. And in private. Soon."

[identity profile] miss-monochrome.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
::smiles:: Yup. You too?

Any ideas on how to do this?

[identity profile] wannabelawyer.livejournal.com 2005-12-06 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Lindsey shrugged.

"Honestly? I haven't got a clue."
