Dream is dressed in jeans and a t-shirt today, and he could pass for a slightly autocratic lead singer of any 80's band with Goth tendencies. He leans on his desk, clearly at ease.

"Hello.

All Classes: Instead of a final exam, I would like each of you to complete an end-of-term project. You will be expected to write a 200-word paper on any aspect of the languages we have studied or the cultures that gave rise to them. For example, you might discuss the way Hebrew and Greek are used in religious texts, or Chinese cuisine, or Japanese haiku poetry. Present your paper and at least one relevant visual aid in class on December 19 or 21. Pick a presentation date and topic before class on Wednesday. This counts for 25 percent of your grade, so I would advise you to put thought into your topic and the project.

If you do not understand the assignment, come see me in my office. I am also handing out fresh copies of the syllabus to remind you what we have covered in-class.

Classics: We have completed our study of verb conjugation in ancient Greek for now. Let me know if you still have questions. Today, we will move on to personal pronouns and the verb "to be." [Dream lectures on this topic. He realized that he was going a little fast for the class on Wednesday, so he's making a real effort to explain things slowly and clearly.]

Languages of Asia: We are going to learn some Japanese vocabulary for emergencies. I sincerely hope you never need to know that, for example, "Tasukete! Goutou!" is "Help! Thief!", but should you, it is better that you be forearmed."

Draco signs in and listens to the lecture.

Janet signs in and starts taking notes. She's concentrating hard today, though she's a little tired from having woken up early and run across town and campus to make it to class on time.

Janet starts working on her Independent Study in Indo-European.

"Miss Frasier. First, I must commend you on your excellent progress in Indo-European, in spite of my limited time investment with you.

Second, I wanted to talk to you about your final project. If you wanted to do one that would combine your work in the classics and Indo-European classes, I would be willing to work that out with you. Do you have a preference?"

Sam slid into her seat just before class started and began dutifully taking notes. She couldn't help being distracted--she'd woken up early this morning by a dream, but not the bad kind.

Now she just hoped she could face Jack without blushing.

Evie signs in and does the required work.

Rogue signs in and listens attentivly, clutching her iced tea in one gloved hand.

Anders signs in and listens very carefully to the lecture, grateful that Dream is taking a slower pace this class period. He's a little fascinated by the conjugation of "to be," since he'd never really thought about it in a structured way before.

The pronouns still stick him a little bit, so he raises his hand. "Erm. Professor Dream?"

"Yes, Mr. Anders?"

"I was just wondering if maybe I could get a little extra help with the pronoun stuff, here? The, um, feminine/masculine/neuter stuff kind of confuses me."

"Ah, yes. The neuter case is particular to Greek, among the languages we study."

Dream goes over the information carefully, using several nouns for objects in the classroom as examples. "Does that makes more sense?"

Anders nods slowly. "Yeah, that makes a little more sense now. If I'm still having trouble, can I drop by during office hours?"

"Of course. I'm in my office after classes Monday through Thursday, or you can send me an email anytime."

"Well, great. Thanks." Anders scratches his nose and grins sheepishly. "You'll probably be seeing me after classes, then."

Connor and Murphy walk in together and take their seats after signing in.

Jack signs in and listens to the lecture.

Janet raised an eyebrow and looked at Sam. "You feeling okay?" she whispered. "You're a little flushed."

"I think I'd like to combine it, if I can figure out something to do," said Janet. "And thank you."

Sam nodded and took a sip of coffee. "I'm fine. Must just be the cold weather."

"I think they turned on the heat a while ago," said Janet.

"It is only fair. I look forward to discussing it with you on Wednesday."

"Oh, did they? I didn't notice." She faked a shiver and pulled her sweater tighter around her.

"It's really warm in here, Sam." Janet held out a hand to feel Sam's forehead for a fever. "You're chilled?"

For one of the first times ever, Sam silently cursed the fact that her best friend was one of the most talented physicians in the world. "Not right now. I think I'm getting better."

"You were just shivering," said Janet. "And you're awfully warm. Are you congested? Aching, maybe?"

Thomasina signs her name to the class roster, takes her usual seat and spends the rest of the lesson taking careful notes in her exercise book.

"Janet," Sam glared slightly, "I'm fine."
