Music 101 - Thursday 12pm

"Hey dudes!" Ted was tuning a guitar.

There was the usual stash of junk food on the round table, plus several large buckets of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and napkins. "Help yourselves, come in, enjoy.. not necessarily in that order though, dudes. Little Boy Blue Eyes Dude is gonna hand you back your grades for the scavenger hunt." Ted handed a pile of folded pieces of paper to Crichton. The name of the student and their group number was on the outside of the paper. The students could unfold the paper to see their grade, which was simply a single letter grade written on the inside. If lucky, there might be leftover donut frosting, soda stains or little drawings of historical figures on there was well.

[OOC: You can only see your own grade, and that of someone who directly shows you. I am listing them here for sake of ease.]

"Last week we talked about Spinal Tap, the loudness of music and heavy metal. I asked you little dudes and babes what kind of music you liked. Spinal Tap had a movie made about them. This week I want you to put yourself in their shoes. Not, like, for real, because I don't have Spinal Tap's shoes." He took a breath so he didn't pass out from babbling.

This Week's Discussion: "Your life is being made into a movie. In class, I want you dudes to start talking out what your movie might be like and what kind of music might be used in it."

This Week's Task:
Ted passed around a handout. "For next week, I want you dudes to come up with details about your movie. Remember, this is about your life! Have fun with this! You will be graded."

The following is on the handout:
Your Movie Name: (remember, it's about your life)
Your Movie Genre: (action, drama, sci-fi, comedy, etc)
Hero Song: (a song that is your trademark)
Other Songs: (other songs that you'd like to include in your movie, as many as you like, as few as one)

"Uh, the Stations," he pointed to the alien dudes waving from his office, which is attached to the music room. "Have worked it out that you dudes can get access to something called iTunes, which is, like, a massive database of Earth music. You can access this from any of the school computers. The instructions for getting to the intarwebnet thingy is on your hand-out. Class dismissed, dudes!"

[OOC: Your characters have access to any Earth music. Have fun with it.]

"I think my life would be something swashbuckling and adventurous. Something that depicts the merry go round of confusion and new experiences that I've been having since day one of my life. Something like...an Indiana Jones except without the whips and snakes and stuff. And I'd definitely be the hero and I'd save the day and get the girl."

"Reptile creature since I hate critters. Maybe something big and bad like the queen in the Aliens movies."

Paige sighs "my life as a movie would be...porn a tragic, sci-fi, melodramatic love story I think and probably feature the song Devil Woman by Cliff Richards, other than that I'd say synth all the way!"

She finally manages to smile

Thomasina signs her name to the class roster and takes a seat. She is familiar with the concept of a movie, due to having watched them in Classics and Greek & Roman Archaeology, but she is not at all sure why anyone would wish to make one about her life.

Feeling pleased, Sharon signs in and carefully takes a piece of chicken (yay! food!) and napkins.

Sharon blinks. "And she'll wear a strange hat?"

Re: Discussion

"The story of an orphaned child, growing up and becoming a raptor pilot, with all of the pain of losing her parents to a freak accident." Sharon pauses, flushing. "Or something like that."

"In the movie of my life, I will date Buffy Summers, have a really cool leather jacket, and be played by Luke Perry." Xander gestures vaguely with a drumstick. "I'm hearing some Ozzy Osbourne, a little Toad The Wet Sprocket..."

"A film about my life would obviously be a sci-fi adventure about time travel. The sountrack would feature an eclectic instrumental score."

Mmm. Chicken.

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] likeguidelines.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Barbossa sat in deep thought for a while.

"I think I'd be callin' me movie 'The Pirate o' the Caribbean,' because that what I be. It be full of swashbucklin', wenchin', searchin' fer treasure. Thar be witty dialogue," he winked, "because I be witty, and a really great soundtrack. It be not a movie, in me mind, unless they be singin' 'A Pirate's Life Fer Me' at least once." He paused. "And I'd be the Captain o' the most feared ship in the Caribbean. I be not havin' a parrot, though."

Clockwork Orange, they stole my idea damnit!

I think my life story would be an indy psychological thriller. It would have a cool name that would be a take on my own name, like, 'Little Bird' or 'Crane Song'. I'd obviously be the hero, but I'd be an anti-hero, you know? My hero-song would definately be Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and like to have music by Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Bach, both in their original forms and in techno or synth remakes throughout the movie.

Lots of jump cuts and flashbacks to my childhood. Flashbacks done with a sepia filter and original versions of the Classical music. The jump cuts would be to more contemporary shots, full of vibrant colors and techn/synth versions of classical music, possibly even mashups of different songs. I'd definately want the movie to end with me getting away with the perfect crime as I exit down a dark street wearing dark glasses while Beethoven's 9th plays one last time.

"Ooooh? Maybe a monkey?"

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] likeguidelines.livejournal.com 2005-11-18 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Barbossa grinned. "Definitely a monkey." He thought about his conversation with Tonks in the candy store. "Named Jack."
