Death and Dying
Last class, I gave you an assignment to study what type of deaths must be investigated in the state of Virginia.

Pursuant to § 32.1-283 of the Code of Virginia, all of the following deaths are investigated by the OCME:
• any death from trauma, injury, violence, or poisoning attributable to accident, suicide or homicide;
• sudden deaths to persons in apparent good health or deaths unattended by a physician;
• deaths of persons in jail, prison, or another correctional institution, or in police custody (this includes deaths from legal intervention);
• deaths of patients/residents of state mental health or mental retardation facilities;
• the sudden death of any infant less than eighteen months of age whose death might be attributable to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome; and
• any other suspicious, unusual, or unnatural death.

Considering the unusual circumstances of this town, I'd like you each to come up with one more type of death you believe should be added explicitly to this list.

Homework: Read Hidden Holocausts of the 20th Century. We'll be studying large-scale exterminations next week.

Sociology of Deviance
Welcome class. Our number have been reduced dramatically for this week, with Wednesday currently excused and Angelus evading the authorities, so I have modified the lesson.

Please follow me over to the A/V lab. I am going to give you each a website, and I will come around after you have had a chance to review it. I'd like you to share your thoughts as to whether the website is deviant, or not.

Harry sits down and ponders which kind of deaths should be investigated.

Logan picks a work station and starts looking over his assigned website.

"Mr. Huntzberger, have you had a chance to look over the material?"

"Yes, sir."

Ivanova, curious as to the assignment, sits down and open up the webpage. Her eyes widen and she swallows, hard, blinking a few times before beginning to peruse the site.

Marty rattles off a long list including:

*Eaten by squid
*Death by Gremlin bite
*Death by Zombie attack (May have to chase down the corpse)
*Any death that involves the words "neck rupture"
*Any death immediately following Abnormal Psychology class
*Any death immediately following a trip to Dean Bristow's office
*Any death involving homework from Spider Jerusalem

"How are you today, Ivanova? Any thoughts yet?"

"Any reactions you'd like to share?" he says with an amused expression.

"Should I ask what a neck rupture is?"

"I'm fine, thanks, Dr. Grissom." She glances back at the screen. "I'm, uh, torn, actually, between terming this deviant or not. Ostensibly, it's just information on a women's wrestling league. But the way that these women wrestle seems that they're selling sex, not competition." She sighs. "Besides, it's still pro wrestling, which isn't really wrestling. If a move has a name that begins with capitals, I just can't take it seriously."

Allie comes in, takes her seat and reviews the list.

She's a little spacy after her voicemail from Logan.

Belthazor couldn't help but snicker at his assigned website. He glanced over the text and saw "the amount of lesbian vampire porns out there is absolutely staggering, and consists of several hundred different videos." Clicking a few links, he found himself at "Cindy Crawford's Lesbian Vampire Supermodel Free-for-all." Interesting....

[OOC: *is so very ded*]

"That's a perfectly acceptable analysis, thank you." Grissom reassures her. "There are very few things that are black and white. I can see both sides of this argument. Good work."

"That doesn't look quite like the site I assigned you," Grissom laughs under his breath from over Bel's shoulder.

*Stark sits down and considers the topic for a moment. The list seems to cover most things he would think would be worth investigating. When Marty lists off things, he nods in agreement, especially about the zombies.*

That covers most things, doesn't it? There must be something else that should be investigated.
Other places, not just somewhere where you're locked away, but other places where others are responsible for your well-being...like schools. Deaths there should be looked into, I think, because it means something's gone wrong.

Callisto makes it to class just on time and sits at her desk.

"Death by Locker 327."

"Just exploring the links, teach," Bel said, grinning.
