Quantum Physics 123: Wednesday 9 November

[Ten looks fairly beat today, though he's in a relatively safe mood.]

Today we're going to be looking at A Brief History of Time, regarding the work of human quantum physicist Stephen Hawking. Sam, you're probably aware of his work with wormholes. As you watch, you don't have to take notes, but I'd like you to consider a few questions.
[He idly spins the DVD on his finger.]
What inspired Hawking to enter this field, and how does that compare to why you're taking this class?
How did and does Hawking use available technology to advance his study? Remember that this film was made almost fifteen years ago in subjective Earth time, so computers were far less advanced.
How do Hawking's theories compare to your own regarding the structure of the universe?

Remember, it's always a good time to reconsider one's own impetus. For anything.

((No, you don't actually have to answer these questions unless you feel like picking up A Brief History... yourself. However, do post as a sign-in, and possibly consider the second part of question one--why is your character taking this class?))

John enters the class and thinks about the question. "My main reason for taking this class is to expand upon what I know of physics. The physics class I'm taking is concretely based on laws that are proven, theories that are proven. This class is taking those facts and pushing them, melding them, bending them and seeing what happens there. I'm interested in space and the expanse of space so taking something that deals with the study of space, space/time, and alternate universes is right up my alley."

"I decided to take this class because this is the area where all the big future discoveries will be made--time travel, wormholes, alternate dimensions. Hopefully we'll be making and breaking some of the laws of physics as we currently know and understand them."

*ponders*

Well, sir, my original reason for taking this class was both childish and silly, but thankfully, that is no longer my reason cause Sparky went home, the big doofus.

Right now, I'm just sorta, well... everything in this class is totally new and amazing. While sometimes it makes my brain want to curl up in the fetal position and whimper, overall it's a great challenge, and I don't back down from challenges, sir.

Because you never know what might come in handy, and because it's good exercise for the mind.

Hank thinks on the question for a bit, allowing the others to answer, before responding.

"Originally, I was unaware that this class was primarily focussed on time travel and manipulation. I enrolled primarily because my prior Wednesday classes were eliminated and I wanted to take another one.

"That being said, I find myself thoroughly enjoying the materials and information that you provide us, Doctor, and believe that I can find good use of it in my home reality. Also, as Jessica said, you never know when it might be of use."

After last class, Jack comes prepared. He's already partly drunk out of his mind, and has a flask he can take nips out of at need. Too bad the class is not nearly as brain breaky as normal.

[[I'm not here. You don't see me. I'm in Vegas. Certainly not on Fandom High. Bwa.]]

Sonia thinks carefully before responding.

"At first, I was taking the class for mostly personal reasons- I vas hoping to find answers about why- and how I came to be here.

Over this semester, though, I've found this to be an interesting and rather viable area of study, much further beyond vhat I could have originally imagined. The theories and ideas you've brought up...they're difficult, but they're intriguing."
