Student Council [Friday, Lunchtime]

Considering how certain parts of the semester were going (thank you very much, Jamie), Zoe was glad to have something to look forward to in the first Student Council meeting. The classroom where the council usually met was set up again with a large table and chairs, and there was pizza ready for the taking.

"Good afternoon. It's good to see all of you together," she said, once everyone was settled. "Congratulations on a successful election, and I hope you're all ready to get to work. Our first order of business is to decide who the Student Council president will be. If any of the seniors would like to be considered for this position, you'll have a chance to discuss your merits, and then we'll vote." Yes, she said if. She wasn't going to assume just because she'd seen these kids in action. "After that, we've got to hammer out the details of Parents Weekend, because it's coming up fast. So, who would like to speak first?"

Once people have done their speechifying.

"Usually, we have a meet and greet in the park on Friday, for all the family members who just arrived, and then some kind of event at the community center Saturday evening, and a brunch Sunday morning," Zoe said. "Does anyone have ideas for the event? Or ideas for doing something differently?"

Before or after the meeting.

Um, of course Annie was going for president. She'd practically been writing out a speech just in case she had to use it since she first started putting up posters.

"Hi, so I'm Annie," she said, like no one knew that by now. "I may be new here, but I think I'm presidential material. I'm still pretty new to Fandom, but I have a fresh perspective and want this council to be more than just dances, since people keep talking about that. I'm hardworking, full of ideas, and I strive to be the best and push others to be their best too. I worked extremely hard on my campaign- a campaign which I think is the best reason why you should vote for me- and tried to get out there to the people, and I have some things that they've suggested that I'd like to really push to get done. So... basically, I want to be your Student Council president because I'd be the hardest-working president you could ever have, and I'll give you nothing less than the best. Thank you."

She was not good with the short speeches, this one.

Quinn drew a deep breath before speaking. This was the only actual competitive part of the election, and she wanted to do as good a job with her speech as she could.

"Hi, I'm Quinn," she began, even though she was pretty sure she knew the entire council. "I've been a student leader since I was a freshman, both here and at my old school, and I'd love to finish my high school career as student council president."

"I agree with part of what Annie said: We should be more than just dances. Last year with sorority, we did a lot of fun stuff, but we were also able to host some real fundraising and educational events. I hope to carry that over into council."

"I respect my competitors and their work, but I have the best combination of drive, leadership experience, and knowledge of the school. I'd be honored if you voted for me."

Yeah, funny thing. Wesley hadn't wanted to be elected at all, to begin with, but recent developments had helped change his mind a little. He supposed he could thank Kenzi for that. So after the others had gone, he stood up and faced the group.

"Er, well, as you know, I'm Wesley Wyndam-Pryce," he said a bit nervously. "I, ah, I've had certain, er, experiences recently that have truly shown me just what this school has to offer. There are so many resources at our disposal, and I believe that as Student Council president, I can help to put them to excellent use. We can arrange drives to benefit students' home dimensions, and even help to better our own community. And also, as co-leader of the Reserves, the single most productive student organization in opposing invasions, I'd like to work to provide workshops for students to equip them with basic skills in the event of an invasion catastrophe."

Yes, Wes, you'd already been elected. Get to the qualifications.

"Having worked in leadership roles in the past, I believe I have the experience needed to prepare me for this position, and I believe that my ideas can create a more safe and philanthropic student body. Er. Thank you."

Rilla was so torn. She liked all of the candidates!

After chewing on her lower lip for a long moment, she finally scrawled Quinn's name down.

Quinn had been pleasantly surprised by Wesley's speech, and she had to admit Annie would probably do a good job. It didn't make a difference: there was only one name she was going to write down.

Wesley felt rude voting for himself.

And yet.

Annie sort of knew how this would go. She was definitely the best choice and had the most to offer, but Quinn would win just because high school kids were super predictable and other descriptions she wasn't going to allow herself to think right now.

She wrote her own name down and didn't feel even a little bad about it.

"Maybe a recital?" Rilla offered. "They are quite popular at home."

Don't mind Annie, Wes. She'd just be over here, judging you so hard.

"I like that," Annie said, thinking it over. "Give everyone a chance to really show off for their guests. I bet we've got some real talent here."

Though she wasn't sure she'd want to show hers off. Maybe she could offer to emcee...

"I like it too," Quinn agreed. "I can sing."

Not especially well, but she was comfortable onstage and could carry a tune. She'd be fine.

"Maybe we could get volunteers to do a tour of the island for the parents?"

"I agree, a recital sounds nice," Wesley chimed in. "Though with tours, we ought to consider whether they'll be true tours or tours that conveniently leave out some of the more, er, colorful spots on the island."

They all seemed to really want the job... in the end, though, Toby's vote went to Annie.

While everyone had a solid speech and Quinn had been nice to him at the beginning of the campaign, Dave still felt bad enough about killing Annie a couple weeks ago that he didn't really give more appropriate reasons for voting for one person over another much consideration.

Because really, how would you feel if you killed someone and then told them they couldn't be President?

So yes, he wrote Annie's name down.

Caroline didn't need speeches to know who her vote was going to (since sadly it couldn't be for herself).

"A recital could be fun for everyone who wants to show off, plus give everyone else something to watch in case there are like, a lot of uncomfortable silences to be dealt with." Not that she was thinking of the group she was inviting or anything. "Maybe we should have two tours just for the reason Wesley mentioned."

Petra didn't know what to do, and having been complicit in voting Taylor into tyranny over the Teen Dreamers, she wanted to get it right. She seemed to take a long time writing on her slip of paper, because what she was writing was:

Can I vote for Quinn and Annie? Co-presidents for great balance? If not, I abstain.

Sorry, Wesley. Ers were deadly. Everybody in the pageant world knew that.

I refuse to be the tiebreaker. Refuse!

Honestly, I was contemplating the possibility of co-presidents on my many-hour drive today, and if you're all cool with it, I certainly am. :D

I kind of think it's incredibly perfect.

Likewise! I'm more than happy with it.
