Chemistry; Tuesday, Period One [ 04/19 ].

"So here we are," Kūkaku tilted her head in regarding her last class for a moment, before gesturing for the twins to get moving, "our last class. Congrats and shit on makin' it; you've been a good class. The minions here--" yes, that includes you, Furnace Face, "--will pass out your exams. There are seven parts, covering everything we hit up on though the semester: basics, atomic structure, acids and bases, states and changes, measurement and conversations, stoichiometry and lab safety.

"Get 'em done good an' quick, because after that, you'll be doin' your presentations. Remember, it was anythin' you want, so long as it's chemistry and it doesn't blow up the place. Granted, I'm out of here after this. I'm going back home to my fireworks shop, assumin' my idiot brother hasn't burned it to the ground or turned it into a hog stable, but I'd still like to avoid gettin' tossed in jail one last time while I'm here. So get your tests done, hand 'em into one of the twins, and then we'll have some fun. Hopefully, ya all put together something good for me to remember ya by."

And though the smile was sharp, it was actually pretty sincere, too.

"Any questions before we get started?"

Well, really, he was. Wasn't he?

And on top of that, Jono was looking a bit wistful, today. Even in the face of possible explosions. It probably wouldn't be long before he was out of here, as well.

Jono did fairly well on his exam, considering he hadn't really had an opportunity to study, between Koopas, vampires, and stuffing his tiny nine-year-old face full of cake.

And anyhow, when in doubt, he circled C. C was generally a good bet.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that Elle getting pie to the face last semester will forever be one of my favorite class moments.

The janitor was going to hate Jonothon for this one. But, seeing as it was the last week of classes, and he suspected that everybody else was probably going to be going for explosions, he'd decided to take a somewhat more messy course of action for his presentation today.

//Hydrogen peroxide and sodium iodide,// he announced, about as enthusiastically as Jonothon ever did. //With a bit of liquid soap for good measure, and some food colouring just to make it a bit more interesting...//

Peroxide into the beaker first, and a squirt of soap. A bit of colour for good measure, and then Jono was poised to more or less leap backwards as he added the sodium iodide. It was sort of like an explosion, really.

He might even apologize to anyone who was sitting close enough to get hit in the eruption. Maybe.

You know, coming from anybody else, Jono might have been offended by the 'Fireface' remark. From Kūkaku, it just sort of seemed like a term of endearment.

//Well, I tried not to suck too much,// he replied, lifting his shoulder in a bit of a shrug. //It wasn't terribly difficult. I generally have a few technical difficulties when it comes to sucking anyway.//

//Honestly? Th'weekend. Tiny me would've gotten a kick out of this one.// A pause. //Really, I kind of do now, too.//

It was a brightly-coloured foamapalooza. What wasn't to like?

Okay, that got a bit of an eyebrow raise.

//Really, I wasn't in any particular hurry to blow another hole in myself. If you really want to see something like that, I suppose it could be arranged from a bit of a distance, though.//

It wasn't as if he couldn't lash out with his powers from a good many paces back, after all. And as an added bonus, if he was leaving soon anyhow, he wouldn't have to deal with the weird looks from the other students, after the fact.

Scully did well on this kind of test anyway. Plus she loved the subject matter.

"The Gummy Bear Sacrifice," Scully said firmly. Then grinned.

"Potassium chlorate, after being heated, has a rather interesting reaction with sugar. It's similar to cellular respiration, converting glucose into energy our bodies can use."

Snap crackle pop! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gDCSwTV1Sg)

Scully ate one of the other unsuspecting victims. Then fired up the torch again, ready to sacrifice a few more.

Scully popped another one in her mouth, smirking. "Hoarded the energy. I had to release it into the cosmos." Pfffzzzzzzz! She poked at another gummy bear with tongs. "If I'd wanted to get fancy, I could've put a balloon over the test tube to capture all the carbon dioxide while it was exploding, too."

//What, when I was nine?// He gave the mess a thoughtful look as he mopped his arms clean, and then set to work on the foam. //... Probably a garden hose, actually.//

Tiny him hadn't been on fire.

Older him didn't think that fire on a foam that consisted mostly of soap suds filled with pure oxygen, which was giving off a sort of smoky hydrogen mixture, was probably a good idea.

Scully considered. IT was a symptom of how much she was regressing, probably, that she wanted to say, Stick them in Professor Holmes' office but she settled for, "Some decoration would probably be good." Heh.

Explosions had been so very important to this course that Joolushko had decided that not exploding something for this presentation would be a mistake.

It was, at least, a rather colorful if entirely handwavey sort of explosion.
