Chemistry; Tuesday, Period One [ 02/08 ].

"Alright, kiddos, today we're talkin' about drugs," Kūkaku informed them. "Not in the blah blah blah, don't do them way, but in the blah blah blah drugs are really a compilation of a lot of different chemicals, and if you mix them with other drugs, you get chemical reactions that are either really bad for you or will counteract the effects of the drugs that might be good for you, and then you die, and that'd be bad. So look at us, we're being practical and shit."

Kūkaku talked a little bit about what made a drug a drug, especially in how certain chemicals were put together to interact with biological chemicals to serve a certain purpose, whether it be curing something, relieving pain, or creating a certain effect that might be sought after for recreational enjoyment of some sort. "Coffee?" Kūkaku started scribbling down some chemical make-ups. "S'got caffeine; it's a drug. Nicotine?" With a slight grunt since even death couldn't kill her addiction to that one. "S'an alkaloid of the nightshade family, an' also a drug. Ibuprofen, non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug. You get the point. And then the next point then is that, as chemical compounds creating chemical reactions in your body to get a certain job done, they're a good example of how certain chemicals, when put together, can either be pretty dangerous or completely counteract each other or amply unpleasant side effects.

"And, hey, Valentine's Day's next week, so let's also mention how all this shit is especially important for pregnant women. Somethin' to keep in mind, that ya can't take that Isotretinoin for your acne because it'll mess with the chemistry of your body and the growin' thing inside ya. An' certain antidepressants can negatively effect your libido, which seems pretty freakin' counterproductive, considerin' how, chemically speakin', sex stimulates natural mood lifters in your body, that make ya feel pretty freakin' not depressed. Of course, there's always the regret afterwards; that's an entirely different story. But some other medications'll even mess with birth control, so if ya got plans for the weekends, girls, consider skippin' the anti-fungal cream just this once."

"One of the biggest culprits of interacting with a lot of different drugs is," and here,
Kūkaku seemed to pull a big round fruit from out of practically no where and tossed it up a little, catching it easily in her hand, "grapefruit. Sucks if ya like grapefruit, but it's not a problem if ya don't. So what we're gonna do, is we're gonna have the twins and Starsmore pass out a lift of the different kinds of drugs that will be affected by grapefruit juice, an' I want ya to partner up with someone and work out the chemical reactions that cause the problem. Lots of information on the list but if ya still have questions, that's what I'm here for. Let's get started, yeah? An' there's plenty of grapefruit for everyone if yer feelin' a little bad for skippin' breakfast."

True, she was just as likely to throw it at your head first, but...

[[ OCD on the way is not altered by grapefruit! ]]
