Anyone expecting a vast, impressive landscape was going to be very disappointed today. The Danger Shop looked like a living room. There were chairs and tables and shelves and couches and other things you would normally find in a living room. Off to one side was a kitchen with a big table and a dining room with another big table and the usual chairs.

There was a good chance he could have simply done this class in an actual classroom to the same effect, but that would have meant not getting to tinker with the Danger Shop controls.

The Doctor was perched on a wooden chair near the window on the far side of the room. "Hello!" he called. "Don't touch the floor!" he warned, holding out a hand as if to keep them from stepping into mortal peril. "The floor is lava! The carpets, the linoleum in the kitchen, even the tiles in the bathroom are lava. The only safe parts are the furniture. Quick, get yourselves to safety!"

He was ignoring the part where safety was outside the room as well. That spoiled the fun.

DEALING WITH LAVA!

Doing things that people do before classes.

Come on in! Climb on the furniture! Try to get from place to place without falling into the "lava" (note: for once it's not real lava). If you happen to want to try things from the xkcd (http://xkcd.com/735/) comic, the Doctor will probably be very encouraging. Or you could boggle at the ridiculous exercise, but be prepared to be picked on if you don't play along!

Better hope you don't have any enemies in the class who will push you into the lava.

The Doctor is an expert in floor lava. No idea about the TAs.

Cara was not an expert in floor lava, but she strongly suspected that floor lava did not actually exist.

Cara rolled her eyes before stepping onto the nearest chair. If she looked like she was plotting the nearest path to the Doctor without touching the floor, that's because she was.

Leia had played similar games with Winter when she'd been much younger (once in the Alderaanian throne room, which had caused a great deal of fainting from her aunts). Grinning, she climbed up on a table to escape the flow.

Hank jumped on the couch and bounced excitedly. He loved this game! "Watch out for lava monsters, everyone!!!"

Claudia loved this game and quite quickly made her way to the coffee table. The key was to create little stepping stones out of cushions and throw pillows and your older brother's school textbooks. . . .

Alex had played this game with her brothers more times than she could count. She loved this game. Finding the nearest chair, she climbed onto it and planned her next move. She wondered if using magic to move a table closer to her was considered cheating...

"Sir, I just want to apologize for being absent last week. I was sick. Also I'm still getting my energy back so if I don't participate as much, that's why."

"Oh no Sir, it was a Muppet thing, Non-Muppets can't catch it."

THE FLOOR IS LAVA WAS MY FAVOURITE GAME AND I LOVE YOU FOR THIS CLASS.

Ariel was precariously perched on the arm of a sofa, barely managing to keep her balance for all her giggles. Of course she wasn't going to stay in one place, either! This was too much fun to stay in one play. She moved carefully from one piece of furniture to the other, being oh-so-careful to not touch the 'lava.'

"Oh, no!" How could Ariel not play along with that. "Lava monsters! And lava sharks! They're everywhere!"

"Lava sharks?!?!" Hank asked. "I've never heard of those!"

As opposed to, say, lava monsters, which were pretty standard fare whenever an adventure took you deep enough underground.

"Oh, yes," Ariel said knowledgeably as she carefully made the transition from sofa to ottoman. "They're particularly mean, because you know they can't stop moving, right?"

Hank gasped. "Attention-deficit lava sharks!!!!"

"Errr." Ariel wasn't sure she knew what that meant, which was ironic, really.

"Yes! Exactly! So that's even more dangerous!"
