Primatology; Thursday, Fourth Period [ 01/27 ].

It looked like someone had finally found out about the Danger Shop and how to use it and the timing couldn't be more spot on! There was a sign on the classroom door, proclaiming that everyone grab a hat (of which there were few in a box before the door, too) and march on over to the danger shop. There, upon entering, the students would find themselves in a lush tropical rain forest.

"Welcome!" Jane, clearly decked for a jungle excursion in her own hat and sensible boots. She swept out her arms excitedly to the recreated jungle around them. "To the jungles of deepest Africa! Today, we will be talking...or rather exploring!...habitat, the ecological and environmental area inhabited by a particular species or organism. Obviously, we are not really in the jungles of Africa, but a made-up simulation of one, and isn't it absolutely beautiful? I've been there, and, let me assure you, I can hardly tell the difference! A lecture will certainly get you all the information you need about this sort of place where our primates dwell, but it would be nothing like experiencing it! So I'd like to just say a few things, and then we will grab our expedition packs which should hold everything you'll need for an hour in the jungle, as well as some notebooks to record any of your finding, and then it's off into the wilderness to find some primate habitats!

"You all know by now," Jane continued, "that a primate is typically arboreal, so we'll want to keep our eyes up in the trees for most of their homes! If you feel particularly adventurous, feel free to climb on up and see what you can see! Not all primates live in the rain forests of the world, but quite a lot of them do, especially the sorts we will be studying, and they pay a very important role in dispersing seeds all throughout the habitat as they go about and eat all the delicious fruits offered by this bountiful area. So another thing to look for when searching for our primates...fruits! It will be very likely that if you find fruits, you'll find a monkey who might be about to eat them.

"Now, the world we are in right now is beautiful and exciting, but it can be very, very dangerous! Please, no going exploring alone; pairs of two or groups of three, please! You want to do your very best not to disturb the wildlife; we are only here to observe, and I know from personal experience that baboons in particular are especially...chasey, and the have such frightening teeth and claws! There are also leopards and gorillas and snakes, oh my! So be careful! But be watchful! There are also chimpanzees and elephants and birds, so it's understandable to be distracted, but, remember, we're looking particularly for primates. And next week, we'll all discuss our adventures!"

Perhaps. But considering Jane had completely forgotten that she'd assigned homework last week, she might forget about it next week, too. But could you really blame her? This Danger Shop thing was just incredible!

"Any questions? If not, go forth, and explore! Find those primate habitats and let's see what you can observe of them! Should you need anything, I'll stick here at camp, and try to keep out of trouble. We are here to observe; we mustn't disturb the natural habitats around us. Take only memories, and leave only footprints!"
