Tracking: Urban v. Wilderness; Thursday, Period Three [ 11/18 ].

"Welcome back, class," said Angua as the hour started. "Glad to see last week's ordeal finished and out of the way just in time for you all to take your exams. I was thinking of having you all take a written test to conclude this semester, but you've got a certain handful of classmates to thank for the reason I went with a practical instead."

She assumed that would cause the students to be grateful toward those people; anyone who honestly would rather do a written exam was someone that Angua was going to have trouble understanding ever.

"Do you remember the week where you were assigned someone to track? Well, for the final, we're doing that again, although, since the class focused mostly on adapting wilderness strategies to urban environments, it will take place completely in the city. And, as you can see, I've designed it to be extra cluttered, extra convoluted, and extra busy to make it a little more challenging. I've also borrowed the Troopers again; they're peppered throughout the place and are looking for you, so, in addition to having to track your person and avoid whoever is tracking you, you mustn't do anything to attract their attention, or you're caught and have to spend a penalty in the slammer."

Angua grinned at the class a little. "That's what you get for having a Watchman as a teacher. Which, by the way, I won't be next semester; it's back to just the badge for me, but I'd like the chance to say that it's not because I didn't enjoy teaching you all. I really did, so thank you all for that. It was a really good experience and not nearly as big of a disaster as I thought it was. I'm sure I'll see you all around town, though hopefully not via my other job."

"Now, everyone line up and receive your tracking assignments, and then you have five minutes to prepare yourself before the exam begins. If, for whatever reason, the person you're tracking is not here today, congratulations, you only have to focus on avoiding whoever is looking for you and the Troopers. And if the person is tracking you isn't here...well, you don't know who's tracking you, so, for all you know, you're being chased by no body but Ralph. Any questions?"

It's not even anything I have a personal stake in, but I absolutely love how you've been providing reading alternatives for Firekeeper and Blind Seer all this time. And eeee, Blind Seer gets his own assignments! <3

Dammit, this sounded fun, too. She would have excelled at his assignment if this aslkfjalskdfjalsjf witchcraft hadn't stolen her shape.

Makita gave a wolfish huff and settled her head on her paws for the moment. She'd wait until the teacher was done talking, and get in line with the rest. Angua had - hopefully - already noticed she was short one 'gorkan and up an extra wolf.

Makita padded over to Angua, sat down, and Looked at her.

Someone was going to need to be verbally told her target, as she didn't really have hands to take her card with her assignment.

Firekeeper and Blind Seer were indeed 'scoping out' their surroundings, taking the time to let noses and ears adjust to unfamiliar sounds and smells.

...And, okay, they were also darting curious glances at the unfamiliar wolf in the class. It wasn't Jacob, being far too small and female, besides, so then who?

To say that Zack was maybe a little excited about the prospect of getting to track down a wolf was probably the understatement of the year.

And, since he was still a little shaken by last week's events, odds were slim that he was going to just skip his way through this one with a grin on his face.

For all his excitement, he was going to take this one seriously.

Tracking a wolf, tracking a wolf! Zack decided that the best way to best somebody with a nose that could put any of his senses to shame was to keep moving, and to keep to places where he figured Blind Seer and his sniffer weren't going to be.

And so, straight to the rooftops he went. He wasn't too worried about the troopers. They'd have to actually catch him, after all.

Where the heck was Makita? ...wait. There was an extra wolf.

Oh, this was going to be impossible.

Scully decided to climb a tree. Good view, less scent to track if either Blind Seer or Makita had gotten her, and hey, hopefully enough cover to elude anyone using their eyes, until she had a good idea where her target was.

Also a good way to avoid Ralph and his buddies.

Makita whined in agreement, because if she had to be stuck with one of the island's enchantments, at least she was in a shape that made sense to her.

She tilted her head to the side, studying the picture before giving a very un-wolfish nod of satisfaction. The boy would be easy to find, although given the environment, if he DIDN'T spot a wolf tailing him, Makita was going to pronounce him 'dumb' and possibly chew on an arm. A bit. Nothing too serious?

Well, she was normally a wolf, but not a wolf-wolf...as much as she hated magic that wasn't a sensible protocol, this wasn't exactly a big change, mentally.

Makita sighed and gave a shrug, since she had no idea how to spell that out, without interpretive dance and a translator. She'd explain later, when she had a voice again.
