"I'd like to apologize for the canceled class last week," Angua said, with a faint, slightly on edge smile, because, of course, these things couldn't conveniently coincide with the phases of the moon for her. "But I'm sure if my suspicions about last week were correct, you didn't mind too much. But it's back to work today and we've talked a lot about tracking, but now it's time to consider ways of trapping what you track. I'm sure many of us in this class might already have some effective methods that we already use, but today, we'll go over some classic wilderness snares and traps, and then work on adapting them to an urban environment."

"Now, usually, snares a made for the intention of catching food. In the wilderness, that makes sense. In the city, that's probably considered an elevated form of stealing. However, at least in my line of work and in others, they can be helpful for incapacitating someone you're either chasing or trying to catch. It usually consists of a loop or a noose and a trigger mechanism that will go off when the target crosses its path, snagging it up and being potentially comedic if you're into that sort of thing, but, really, the only things as unfunny as snare gags are probably mimes and clowns."

Excuse Angua a moment; she had to shudder. But she moved on bravely to go over different types of snares and how they should be as camouflaged and de-scented as much as possible, and then she moved onto a variety of different traps, which were also not as funny as some might try to fool you into thinking. "The nice thing about traps is that you can prepare them, leave them, and come back to them later easily enough. They're fairly easy to come up with, and are a little less...mechanical than snares. And, remember, traps can come in many forms."

"So you guys probably know the drill by now. We'll spend the first part of class here in the woods working on the different snares and traps, and then we'll head into the city and see how we might be able to make some adaptations. Any questions?"

It's a trap!

It's filled with plenty of demonstrations and examples that the mun is too lazy to actually write out.

See how many fluffy bunnies you can trap within about twenty minutes!

Once they got to the usual cityscape, Angua spoke again. "Now," she said, "again, different environment, different resources, same concepts. Today, I've actually got an example for you, and it's really all about knowing the weaknesses of who or what you're tracking. Let me show you."

After which she pulled out a coffee bean from her pocket and tossed it casually on the ground.

"Ooh, coffee bean (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR72bDp8H8M)!" Maladicta found herself drawn out from the crowd to pick it, where she could only then notice another not far away. "Ooh, coffee bean!" And another after that. "Ooh, coffee bean!" So on and so forth until she'd been lead directly under a rather obvious box on a stick and, once she was under it, Angua pulled the string and the box came crashing down.

"See?" Angua offered, trying not to look too smug. "Piece of...cake. Now it's your turn. Create some traps and snares and see if you can get your classmates caught or some of the random generated townsfolk, too."

When they ping in and if the one doesn't plan to stay under the box the whole time.

Angua's not completely awful. If she does come out (which, being a vampire, shouldn't be a problem), she'll get a nice coffee for her troubles.

The other could have a squeaky toy if he really wanted it.

Of course she has no reservations about using a student as bait and example if that student is a vampire, shh.

My brain is full of crack this morning.

Jake was good without a squeaky toy, honestly. He would be over here laughing his ass off at Maladicta in the box. Leeches were dumb, yo.

This was cool and Jake set to it, trying different types of traps and snares. Not that he needed it to catch fluffy bunnies, but still; cool to know!

Look, she might be a polite leech, but he still got to laugh.

So it was okay to be working on snares that might, or might not, work.

Ben figured that if Ewoks could figure out how to trap a Wookiees, two droids and a couple of annoyed rebels, he could work through catching a few bunnies.

Ben burst out laughing, but was careful to avoid any seemingly random offerings of ice cream lying around as he worked on traps that would catch a Tahiri or an Ender.

He wondered if using himself as bait was cheating.

Kurt took plenty of notes. The idea of trapping prey instead of attacking it appealed to him.

The deadfall traps seemed awfully brutal, so Kurt focused on the snares.

Eventually, a few bunnies ended up dangling in the air. "YES!"

Kurt set some snares in dark alleys and baited them with gold he'd "borrowed" from a merchant.

Voilà! One trapped thief, complaining loudly and demanding to be let down.

As it turned out, Bruce could capture a lot of fluffy bunnies within twenty minutes. Look, sometimes you needed to trap fluffy bunnies and so he was slightly experienced at it.
